Total Recall
Total Recall, the first space action film, was released in 1990 and directed by Paul Verhoeven. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, Ronny Cox, and Michael Ironside, adapted from Philip K. Dick's short story.
Tells the story of Douglas Quaid (Schwarzenegger), a worker who decides to use Recall, a company that offers fake memories for adventures on Mars.
However, during the process, Quaid discovers that his memories are fake, he is a secret agent. When his false memory is triggered, Quaid is pursued by security agents and discovers clues to the complexities of human existence on Mars.
Lost in Space
Lost in Space features the Robinson family, including Professor John (William Hurt), Maureen (Mimi Rogers), and their children: Judy (Heather Graham), Penny (Lacey Chabert), and Will (Jack Johnson).
They are selected for a mission to Alpha Prime, but are sabotaged by Dr. Zachary Smith (Gary Oldman) stranded their ship, the Jupiter 2, in space. With the help of Don West (Matt LeBlanc) and Robot, they fight to survive and return to Earth.
Directed by Stephen Hopkins, the film was released on April 3, 1998, based on the 1965-1968 television series.
Elysium
Elysium is a 2013 space action film, directed by Neil Blomkamp and starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, and William Fichtner. With revenues of more than $286 million, the film was a success despite a budget of only $115 million, not including promotional costs.
The story is set in a future where Earth is filled with poverty and disease, while the human elite lives on the luxury space station, Elysium. Max Da Costa (Matt Damon), a hard worker, goes on a dangerous mission to Elysium to get the medical treatment he needs after being exposed to radiation.
Dune
Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a young man born to a noble family on the desert planet Arrakis. When his father, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), manages resource production on the planet, the Atreides family must face politics and threats from other noble houses, especially the cruel Harkonnen.
Paul realizes his destiny and power, becoming involved in the war against the nobility, the local Fremen Tribe, and the Navigators Guild. During his journey, Paul falls in love with Chani (Zendaya), a mysterious woman associated with the Fremen Tribe. Released on October 22, 2021, and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and others. Warner Bros. released the sequel, Dune: Part Two.
Space Sweepers
Space Sweepers, released on February 5 2021 on Netflix, tells the story of an Earth that is no longer habitable, pushing humans into outer space. The ship Victory, inhabited by waste collector Space Sweepers, becomes the center of the story. The ship's crew, including captain Jang (Kim Tae-ri) and pilot Tae-ho (Song Joong-ki), live dangerous lives, fighting to survive.
With a budget of US$21 million, the film became South Korea's largest production at the time. Although without major awards, Space Sweepers was praised for its stunning visual effects and cast of stars such as Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Sun-kyu, and Yoo Hae-jin.
The Chronicles of Riddick
The Chronicles of Riddick, starring Vin Diesel as Richard B. Riddick, an assassin with extraordinary vision in the dark. After escaping from space prison, Riddick is caught in a conflict between the Necromongers led by Lord Marshal (Colm Feore) and the Furians, his people.
Upon realizing his role in stopping the Lord Marshal, Riddick joins the Furians to fight the Necromongers. A sequel to Pitch Black (2000), the film was directed by David Twohy and released in 2004, starring Vin Diesel, Colm Feore, Thandie Newton, Karl Urban, and Judi Dench.
Doom
Doom tells the story of a group of special forces soldiers who are sent to Mars to investigate mysterious events at a scientific research facility. They discovered that the researchers had been turned into vicious monsters due to attacks by terrible creatures.

When a ship led by the evil Romulan Nero threatens Earth and changes the flow of time, Kirk and the crew must work together under the leadership of Captain Pike to confront the threat and save the galaxy. It's a compelling origin story about friendship, adventure, and sacrifice.
Star Wars IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode IV, released in 1977, was the first film in the franchise. Directed by George Lucas, starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. Winning six Academy Awards, including Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects, the film tells the story of the struggle between the Galactic Empire and the Rebels.
When Leia Organa tries to convey an important plan, she is captured, but the plan is saved by the robot R2-D2. On the planet Tatooine, the robot is discovered by Luke Skywalker, who then teams up with Obi-Wan Kenobi to understand the message and fight the Empire.
Jupiter Ascending
Jupiter Ascending, the final film in this list, follows the journey of Jupiter Jones, who learns he is the heir to the universe. Meeting Caine Wise, a former space soldier, the two face a cosmic threat that wants to control Jupiter and the riches of the universe.
Directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the film stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, and Eddie Redmayne. Despite its stunning visuals, the film received mixed reviews due to its complicated plot and underwhelming execution, with some praising the film's imagination.
