Dini, Rana's mother, and their extended family became very worried and saddened by Rana's disappearance. They organize a massive search operation in hopes of finding Rana safely. However, a week has passed without a trace of Rana.

Finally, Rana's extended family decided to hold a tahlilan as a sign of sorrow over the death that was suspected to have befallen Rana. When the tahlilan event took place, a deep and touching atmosphere was felt throughout the house. But Dini, as a mother, could not accept the fact that her daughter had died. She refuses to give up and keeps on hoping that Rana is still alive somewhere, somehow.

Until one night, in the pouring rain, Rana returns home suddenly. Dini, her husband Banyu, and their youngest daughter, Tari, happily and anxiously welcome Rana home. However, when the extended family finds out that Rana has returned, they don't feel the same happiness.

Dini's extended family lives with strong beliefs and superstitions. According to primbons (Javanese predictions and belief books), when someone dies, one must complete the journey to the realm of the dead by following a series of ceremonies and rituals. If someone who was declared miraculously dead returned home, it was believed that that person was not an ordinary human, but a being related to the spiritual world or even a demon.
