Hwang Dong Hyuk is one of the people behind the success of the film Squid Game. The reason is, he is the director of a film that is currently popular on Netflix. Of course besides Squid Game, there are many more films made by Hwang Dong Hyuk that you need to watch.
Hwang Dong Hyuk who was born in Seoul on May 26, 1971 is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he took a master's degree in Film Production.
Hwang Dong Hyuk started his career as a director through short films such as Our Sad Life and A Puff of Smoke which he made during college. The peak, of course, was when he had great success working on the Squid Game.

1. My Father
My Father is Hwang Dong Hyuk's feature-length film debut which was released in 2007. Based on the true story of Korean-American adopted son Aaron Bates, this film tells the story of a US Army soldier stationed in Korea. He then appeared on national television to find his birth parents who are Korean. Unfortunately, the son knows the fact that his father was sentenced to death for murder.
2. The Crucible (Silenced)
Before the Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk had already stolen the attention when the film The Crucible or other titles Silenced achieved success in South Korea with a total of 4.7 million viewers throughout its broadcast.
Based on the novel by Gong Ji-young, Silenced tells the real-life events of deaf students at Gwangju Inhwa School who were sexually harassed by their teacher for years.
This film received various responses for being brave enough to raise sensitive issues in South Korea.
3. Miss Granny
As the title suggests, Miss Granny tells the story of a 70-year-old middle-aged woman who lives with her children and grandchildren. She felt that her life was just a bother for her son.
Until one day, she went to an old school photo studio in her home area. A miracle happened, when the 70-year-old grandmother returned to her 20s where she was still a cheerful girl.
Miss Granny is a fun film because it contains a lot of comedic elements compared to other Hwang Dong-hyuk films.

4. The Fortress
The Fortress is Hwang Dong-hyuk's next film set in 1636 when the Qing dynasty invaded Joseon. King Injo (Park Hae-Il) and his followers, including Choi Myung-Kil (Lee Byung-Hun) & Kim Sang-Hun (Kim Yun-Seok), are forced to take refuge in the mountain fortress town of Namhansanseong. They continued to defend within the fort and were isolated from the outside.
The dwindling food supply led Choi Myung-Kil to propose that Joseon negotiate with the Qing Dynasty. However, Kim Sang-Hun suggested that they should keep fighting against the Qing Dynasty.
This film is considered a success because it managed to attract 1 million viewers only from 3 days of premiere.
5. Miracle Mile
Miracle Mile is a short film directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk during his education. Starring Karl Yune as a Korean-American gypsy taxi driver, the film was a hit with more than 40 screens at various film festivals, including being awarded at the DGA Student Film Award and the Student Emmy Award.
