Rumors about Final Fantasy XVI's presence on Nintendo Switch 2 began to emerge after the game's producer, Naoki Yoshida, made a statement saying that "only Nintendo is left." This sparked speculation that Square Enix was open to the opportunity to bring this game to Nintendo's next-generation console.
In addition, creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro also expressed his interest in seeing FF XVI present on other platforms, including Nintendo. However, until now there has been no official announcement from Square Enix regarding this matter. On the other hand, several trusted sources such as leaker "Nate the Hate" said that Square Enix is currently prioritizing bringing Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth to Nintendo Switch 2 first.
This is considered more realistic because both games were originally developed for PS4, whose specifications are closer to the capabilities of Switch 2 compared to Final Fantasy XVI which was purely developed for the latest generation consoles such as PS5. Thus, although porting FF XVI is possible in the future, that is not the company's main focus at this time.
Technically, Switch 2 is estimated to be powerful enough to run games like Final Fantasy XVI, although possibly with some graphical and performance adjustments. Square Enix itself is now adopting a multiplatform strategy, so the opportunity remains open.
However, considering the current technical burden and business priorities, it is very likely that Final Fantasy XVI will come to Switch 2 much later than Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth. For FF fans waiting on Switch, the title from the VII series seems to be the main treat first.
Do you think this latest Final Fantasy series will be present on Switch 2 later?
