On Wednesday, September 13th 2023 Warner Bros. Japan announced plans to produce a new anime adaptation of the classic manga Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara.

The anime will feature a new cast, and further details will be announced by Warner Bros. Japan at a later date. The announcement of the new anime is part of the series' 40th anniversary celebrations.

The manga's story is set in a post-apocalyptic world and centers on a man named Kenshiro, an extremely strong martial artist and expert in the Hokuto Shinken fighting style. Kenshiro wanders the nuclear wasteland, protecting the weak and upholding justice with his strength.

On his journey, he must face other martial arts experts and figures from his past, including his adopted brother, Raoh, who has crowned himself the new king of the world.

The original manga was first published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1983 to 1988. Viz Media began republishing the manga in digital and physical formats in June 2021.

The Fist of the North Star anime first aired on television for two seasons from 1984 to 1988 and consisted of 152 episodes. This work has inspired several other anime adaptations, including movies and spin off series. In February 2021, Hiroshi Kurao also launched a new spin off manga titled Hokuto no Ken Seikimatsu Drama Satsuei-hen (Fist of the North Star Apocalypse Drama Filming Arc) on the manga website Comic Zenon.

With the announcement of this new anime adaptation, fans of Fist of the North Star can prepare to revisit Kenshiro's epic adventure in an upcoming animated format with renewed vigor, which is sure to be one of the highlights of the anime world.
