DC Comics has no shortage of characters with incredible speed. From heroes like Superman and The Flash to villains like Savitar and Reverse-Flash, there always seems to be another fast character making their debut. Some use their talents for heroic missions, while others use their speed for selfish or criminal endeavors—but each one relishes the opportunity to test their limits.

Over 80 years of publishing, DC has introduced plenty of speedsters. This time, we’ll discuss the fastest characters in DC Comics, and you might be surprised to learn that The Flash isn’t always the fastest! Let’s dive into the speedsters who can rival or even surpass him.

1. Savitar

After his plane was struck by lightning, Savitar gained super speed. He dedicated his time to mastering his powers and soon reached abilities beyond other speedsters. Savitar can transfer speed to objects and people and can nearly heal his wounds instantly.

A cult known as the Thunderbolt Agents formed around him and used him for their benefit—Savitar even granted them super speed. When Barry Allen was corrupted by the Negative Speed Force, he caused Savitar to disintegrate, seemingly killing him. Awakening in a dark void, Savitar regained access to the Speed Force, fought his way out, and learned to draw additional power from it.

2. Reverse-Flash

Eobard Thawne was born in 2451, and his obsession with the legendary Barry Allen led him to study the Speed Force. Undergoing surgery to make himself look like Barry, he traveled back to Barry’s time. Disguised as The Flash, he was exposed by Wally West, who sent him back to his own era.

Fueled by newfound hatred for Barry Allen and the Flash family, Thawne became Reverse-Flash. A brilliant yet sinister genius, he eventually developed the ability to generate Negative Speed Force. This technique granted him extraordinary levels of speed and power, making him one of the most terrifying villains in the DC Universe.

3. Black Racer

Like Black Flash, Black Racer is the embodiment of death. Also known as the God of Death, Black Racer primarily serves Darkseid. During the Darkseid War, Black Racer merged with Bart Allen and killed Darkseid.

Black Racer can possess hosts and corrupt them. As seen with Bart Allen, he can take over other characters and utilize their speed. Even without using his speed, he can outpace The Flash.

4. Zoom

After discovering his father was a serial killer, Hunter Zolomon became obsessed with criminal psychology. As a profiler, he befriended Wally West. However, after an accident left him paralyzed from the waist down, he sought Wally’s help, but Wally refused.

Determined to take matters into his own hands, Zolomon gained powers through an accident involving the Cosmic Treadmill. Becoming the second Zoom, he attempted to kill Wally’s wife, Linda Park, to push Wally into becoming a better hero.

5. Kid Flash

Iris West is one of the twin children of Linda Park and Wally West. Like Bart Allen, Iris' inherited speed caused her to age rapidly. To help her control her powers, Wally guided her through her accelerated growth.

Even as a child, Iris faced some of Flash’s most dangerous enemies, including Gorilla Grodd and Spin. Taking on the codename Impulse, she exhibited a natural connection to the Speed Force, much like her father. Unlike Wally, Iris was born with this ability.

6. The Flash Versi Barry Allen

After his father was accused of murdering his mother, young Barry Allen pursued a career in criminal justice. While working as a forensic scientist, an accident involving lightning and chemicals granted him super speed. Barry became the second Flash, co-founded the Justice League, and mentored Wally West, who would later become a speedster himself.

With nearly limitless energy, Barry is incredibly difficult to defeat. Beyond outrunning numerous high-speed villains and even beating Superman in races, Barry has performed extraordinary feats like reviving himself and escaping the Speed Force.

7. The Flash Versi Wally West

Growing up, Wally West was inspired by The Flash. His aunt, Iris, introduced him to Barry Allen, who later mentored him after he gained super speed. Wally became Kid Flash and briefly joined the Teen Titans. After Barry’s death during Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wally reluctantly took on the mantle of The Flash.

Proving himself a worthy successor, Wally permanently tapped into the Speed Force. His most impressive feats include surpassing the speed of light, outrunning Black Flash by reaching a point where death is meaningless, and becoming only the second person to ever escape the Speed Force.
