Former RRQ Valorant Coach Suddenly Becomes New Head Coach of Sentinels
Former RRQ Valorant Coach, Marthinus “Ewok” Jacobus Van Der Walt, was suddenly announced as the new Head Coach of Sentinels
Valorant | 23 February
Former RRQ Valorant Coach, Marthinus “Ewok” Jacobus Van Der Walt, was suddenly announced as the new Head Coach of Sentinels, replacing Kaplan, who had previously held the position since April 2023 and led Sentinels to victory in VCT America and VCT Masters.
Sentinels Change Head Coach
This was announced by Sentinels CEO Rob Moore. Quoted from VLR, Moore said the decision to replace Kaplan was based on his results at Champions 2025. Moreover, Sentinels also did not experience any improvement at VCT Kickoff.
“Kaplan had a successful two-year tenure, including bringing home the Masters trophy from Madrid in 2024. Our performance at Champions 2025 was disappointing, and the roster decisions Kaplan made to address this issue led us in the wrong direction,” said Moore.
Kaplan's replacement came as a surprise to fans of the popular American team. Kaplan had been part of the Sentinels' coaching staff since October 2022, even before the Valorant league franchise began.
Since taking on the role of Head Coach of Sentinels in April 2023, Kaplan has delivered the VCT America 2024 Kickoff and Valorant Masters Madrid 2024 titles, as well as several other runner-up finishes.
Former RRQ Valorant Coach, Ewok
Ewok began his career as a Valorant coach with ONIC. Since the franchise system began, Ewok has been entrusted with building RRQ's Valorant division in VCT Pacific. He successfully led RRQ to victory in VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 1 and a runner-up finish in Stage 2. Additionally, RRQ qualified for Masters Toronto, EWC 2025, and Champions 2025.
