The February 2022 issue of Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Young Champion magazine revealed that Koushun Takami's Battle Royale franchise is getting a new manga titled Battle Royale III: Enforcers which will launch in the next issue of Bessatsu Young Champion magazine on February 1, 2022. Takami is credited as the creator of the original work, and Yukii Asada is in charge of drawing the manga.

The manga's numbering in the title implies continuity with Hitoshi Tomizawa's Battle Royale II: Blitz Royale manga. The manga is based on the universe from the live-action film Battle Royale, not the novel's story.

The manga had two manga volumes in 2003 and 2004. Masayuki Taguchi serialized the Battle Royale manga previously in Akita Shoten's Young Champion magazine from 2000 to 2005. A spin-off manga titled Battle Royale: Angels' Border takes place in Young Champion. in 2010.

The 1999 Battle Royale novel tells the story of junior high school students who are forced to play a deadly game. On a deserted island, they must kill each other, and the last surviving student is the victor.

This novel inspired two live-action films which are very well known for the popular stars Tatsuya Fujiwara (Death Note), Chiaki Kuriyama (Kill Bill) and Takeshi Kitano (Takeshi’s Castle). It is so famous that the word Battle Royale has become the name of a game genre where the players must kill each other until the last man or group remains.
