Previously, the actual timeline of GTA Online was a hotly-debated issue among GTA fans. However, the debate eventually came to a conclusion when Rockstar released the latest update for GTA Online: The Contract DLC.
GTA Online: The Contract DLC follows Franklin Clinton, who’s now one of the big bosses in Los Santos. The storyline in The Contract DLC is closely related to the GTA 5 storyline. There are several moments where Franklin makes references to the events that occured in 2013.
Dunia Games has also covered the latest version of Lamar Roasts Franklin, and Franklin who ends up marrying Tanisha. Aside from those things, Franklin also mentions Michael De Santa and other characters. So, what references does Franklin make in this update? Without further ado, let’s get into it.
Got His Inspiration from Michael De Santa
In The Contract, Franklin works with the GTA Online protagonists for the newly-founded agency called F. Clinton & Partners. This business offers high-society solutions for the issues plaguing the socialites and celebrities in Los Santos.
In the intro cutscene, Franklin tries to explain how the business works to the GTA Online protagonists. The conversation clearly hints that the entire business was inspired by the events involving Michael De Santa in GTA 5, which took place back in 2013.
“Now, the streets, I know real good, cause that’s where Im from. But now, I work with rich folk who got rich folks’ problems and have no f**king idea how to deal with ‘em. You know, like the kid might stole a car, or the might owe money to the wrong people. Or their wife might be screwing the tennis coach.”
This dialogue clearly refers to Michael De Santa, as he had experienced all of the three things mentioned by Franklin. And, Franklin was also the one who helped Michael at the time. In other words, F. Clinton & Partners was established under the inspiration Franklin got from Michael De Santa’s past.
Franklin then continues by saying this line:
“But, guess what? My homies can help them with all that.”
In GTA 5, Michael asked Lester to help him make the amount of money Martin Madrazo demanded. Michael eventually invited Franklin to join him for a jewel store, Vangelico, job along with the other members of his crew.
Franklin also shares how much he’s learned from working with Michael, Trevor, and Lester. So, as one should when they’re in this business, Franklin applies the knowledge and experience gained when he robbed the Union Depository alongside these three people.
“I got in with a crew of dudes with some real experience. They taught me how to operate on a serious level, no more hood sh*t for me. That’s why we gotta set up like this. After the guys showed me how to make moves, we pulled a big a** score, and I cashed out.”
Where’s Michael Now?
Despite being mentioned in multiple dialogues in The Contract, unfortunately, Michael De Santa doesn’t make a single appearance in the update. But it doesn’t mean that Rockstar forgets about Michael as on the first mission after the GTA Online protagonist meets Dr. Dre, they have to chase down two characters in a golf cart. When passing by the movie studio, Franklin will say:
“Man, I know one of the producers around here. I hope his a** ain’t at work today…”
It’s no secret that Michael De Santa is a huge movie buff. In GTA 5, Michael crossed paths with Solomon Richards, who became his partner later on in producing a movie titled Meltdown. The line that Franklin says also confirms that Michael still works at the movie studio until the present day.
Most GTA fans are quite satisfied with the update to the events and characters from GTA 5 storyline with The Contract DLC. Let’s hope that in the next DLCs, Rockstar will give us another update on Michael De Santa’s journey in Los Santos, considering that he’s the only GTA 5 protagonist to appear in GTA Online.
So, what do you think about this DLC? Are you satisfied with the update from Rockstar? Or do you feel the opposite? Let us know in the comments below!
