Playing games that feature giant robots or mechas is never boring. Whether it's just the thrill of hitting an opponent with an iron fist the size of a house or facing a warmachine the size of a skyscraper, such feeling can only be experienced through mecha games. And here is a list of 18 of the best and most fun mecha games that you can play on your console or PC.

1. War of the Monsters

  • Platform: PS2

As the title suggests, this game features both monsters and giant robots. In the game’s story, the fuel of the future ends up creating dangerous monsters that ravage the Earth. Then you have to fight each other either as a robot that protects justice or a monster bent on destruction.

2. Pacific Rim

  • Platform: Xbox 360, Android, iOS

This movie-adaptation game is not exactly a spectacular title by any means. However, for mecha and kaiju fans, Pacific Rim can definitely still scratch that itch. In addition to playing as the kaiju or Jaegers from the film, you can create your own Jaeger mecha by combining parts.

3. Override

  • Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC

If you miss War of the Monsters but want to play something with a more high-definition look, maybe this indie game can be an option. Even though there are no giant monsters, Override still features battles between various giant robots in different arenas, from metropolitan cities to outer space.

4. Zone of the Enders

  • Platform: PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC

This game series, directed by Hideo Kojima and released by Konami, takes place in the 22nd century when mankind has made space colonies. However, there is a conflict between the inhabitants of Earth and those who live on Mars and Jupiter using robots called the Orbital Frame.

5. Front Mission

  • Platform: SNES, NDS, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC

Mecha and strategy fans must already be very familiar with this mecha game that has a realistic-style design and story. Besides being released as strategy games, Front Mission also has several action shooter spin-offs: Gun Hazard, Evolved, and Left Alive. Unfortunately the latter two did not get a good response from critics and fans alike.

6. Titanfall

  • Platform: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Switch, PC

Talking about realistic mecha games, the FPS series Titanfall should also not be forgotten. In this PVP game you can fight as ordinary soldiers called Pilots, and then can summon deadly Titan robots in the middle of firefights.

7. BattleTech/MechWarrior

  • Platform: SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC

Apart from Titanfall, other notable mecha games made by Western developers is the BattleTech and/or MechWarrior series. As a mercenary, you have to deal with various BattleMechs, tanks, and other war machines. First released in 1989, like Front Mission, this series has penetrated into a number of different genres. It is even said that a film adaptation is currently in the works.

9. Armored Core

  • Platform: PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita, Xbox 360

When it comes to giant robot games, I don't think we should miss this one. Prior to working on the Souls series, FromSoftware's name was known as the maker of various mecha games -- and their most famous work was Armored Core. Like MechWarrior, here you work as a mercenary who has his own mecha. You can also modify your mecha with various weapons and body parts.

8. Steel Battalion

  • Platform: Xbox, Xbox 360

An incredibly popular title among mecha fanatics as it is the only giant robot game to be released alongside a special controller priced at USD$300. Here you drive a lumbering Steel Battalion war robot that has very realistic controls -- especially if you use the special controller. You could say this game is one of the few titles that can be called a "mecha simulator.”

10. Daemon X Machina

  • Platform: Switch, PC

FromSoftware has not made a new Armored Core (yet?) since the PS3 days. But if you want to play something similar and only recently released, Bandai Namco's Daemon X Machina is an option. Similar to Armored Core, here you play as a mercenary complete with mechas that you can customize and packed in a fast gameplay.

11. Robot Alchemic Drive

  • Platform: PS2

Robot Alchemic Drive or R.A.D. is a must play if you like old school mecha anime like Tetsujin 28. Unlike all the titles here, you don't control the giant robot from behind the cockpit -- instead you control a giant robot using a remote control from another location. A unique gaming experience that still has not been replicated by other games.

12. Earth Defense Force

  • Platform: PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC

The EDF series is indeed more famous for its giant insects, alien invasion, and massive explosions. However, there are also a number of robots that you can control to counterattack the alien troops. In addition, since EDF 2025 on Xbox 360 and PS3 developer Sandlot has added a giant robot the size of a skyscraper called Walking Fortress Balam.

13. Armored Warriors

  • Platform: Arcade, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC

If you're tired of just playing PVP and want a cooperative game, the mecha-themed beat-em-up Armored Warriors can be an option. This arcade title was recently re-released as a part of the Capcom Beat-Em-Up Bundle for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

14. Cyberbots

  • Platform: Arcade, Saturn, PS1

Although you could say Cyberbots is a sequel to Armored Warriors, this game actually switches from beat-em-up gameplay to one-on-one fighting like Street Fighter. One of the characters, Jin Saotome, also appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom

15. Tech Romancer

  • Platform: Arcade, Dreamcast

Another giant robot-themed fighting game made by Capcom is Tech Romancer. Different from the previous two titles which have 2D pixel art graphics, this game uses 3D graphics.

16. Virtual-On

  • Platform: Arcade, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, PS4, Xbox 360, PC

Besides Tech Romancer, Virtual-On is also a popular robot fighting game series in the arcades. Produced by SEGA, this series had collaborated with the anime/novel title A Certain Magical Index through the A Certain Magical Virtual-On for PS4 in 2018.

17. Transformers

  • Platform: SNES, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC

Talking about giant robots, the Transformers franchise is a series that shouldn't be missed either. From various original titles in the PS1 and PS2 era to film adaptations, there are a lot of games to pick.

18. Gundam

  • Platform: Available in almost any platform

The last series on this list is certainly always on everyone's mind if we are talking about giant robots: the Gundam series. Ever since the anime debuted in 1979, since then, Bandai has always released a variety of different game adaptations. From strategies such as SD Gundam G Generation, fighting like Extreme Vs., Gundam Breaker, to the Senjou no Kizuna arcade simulation.
