Recently, there have been a lot of fighting games released, from MultiVersus to Street Fighter 6, which will be out next year. Usually fighting games are the most difficult games due to the complex movements and various ways to attack your opponents and fend off their attacks.

While fighting games are difficult enough in general, some are way more difficult to master. Here are the 10 most difficult fighting games of all time.

1. Mortal Kombat

Known as one of the classic fighting games, as well as the most sadistic of all time, Mortal Kombat may seem easy to play, yet for gamers who are new to fighting games, this game may be very difficult to master.

With the wide array of characters and their different moves and abilities, it can be difficult for players to understand the mechanics of this game. There are so many combos that players must memorize, and it takes some dexterity to pull combos, including Fatality.

2. Marvel Vs Capcom

Marvel Vs Capcom has some moves that are quite difficult to master. This game features characters from the Marvel Universe and Capcom. It also has some game modes that require some expertise such as the tag team mode in which you are allowed to switch between characters in and out of battle.

3. Street Fighter

One of the most popular fighting games series, Street Fighter isn't beginner-friendly. There are several different characters to play, and just like most fighting games, each different character has different combos that players need to figure out.

The thing that makes this game significantly more difficult in comparison to other fighting games in general is that players need to execute the perfect combo at the right time.

4. Dead Or Alive

Despite not being that popular among the average gamers, Dead Or Alive features a simple fighting style, but a few additional features make it a bit more difficult than most fighting games.

The counter system in this game is quite distinctive compared to other fighting games, as it allows players to grab the enemies rather than parry their attacks.

In addition to that, the game focuses more on fast combos and efficient attacks, giving players less time to calculate attacks. However, with only a few buttons needed to perform punches and kicks, the combat in this game is on the easier side.

5. Virtua Fighter

This game does sound simple as players only have to use three buttons in fights. However, some players may find this limitation makes things complicated.

Players must be able to pull off moves and combos perfectly with only three buttons.

6. The King of Fighters

The King of Fighters is one of the best fighting games in the 90s with a fairly complicated level of difficulties. The complex moves in this game may be difficult for most players to pull off, let alone new players.

7. Super Smash Bros Melee

Most of the entries in the Super Smash Bros series are considered fairly straightforward compared to other fighting games. Yet Super Smash Bros Melee stands out as the toughest one to beat in the series.

Most players require extra time to learn about the mechanics of the game and movesets to master a character.

This fighting game is so difficult, that even the creator, Masahiro Sakurai, admitted in an interview that he finds Super Smash Bros Melee to be too difficult for him to master.

8. BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

One of the newer fighting games, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, seems to adopt the same fighting mechanics as other games, but it's actually more difficult than it seems.

Unlike most fighting games, one match in BlazBlue consists of up to five rounds instead of three. There's also the unique block mechanic known as Barrier Gage, which when depleted, will cause the player to take increased damage before it's refilled again.

That makes BlazBlue a pretty difficult game to master as players have to manage the Barrier Gage very well.

9. Guilty Gear

Guilty Gear is a fighting game full of powerful characters for players to choose. Although the aspects of this game are similar to most fighting games, the different characters actually make this game tougher to master.

Each character has a different playstyle. As a matter of fact, some characters may take several hours to master, while others may take hundreds to thousands of hours to master.

10. Tekken

Tekken is not only a unique fighting game, but also one of the most difficult games according to most gamers.

The reason why Tekken is such a difficult game to master is that it dedicates one button per limb, making it quite difficult to pull off combos.

Also keep in mind that each character has tons of combos to master, and that's what makes it way more difficult to master this game.
