With the rapid development of the digital era, most people have lost their interest in old-school games. Kids nowadays prefer to play games on their smartphones due to their practicality. Now, to take you down memory lane, on this occasion, I would like to give you a list of classic games that used to be so popular among kids back in the day.
So, what classic games are we talking about? Without further ado, let’s get into it.
1. Water “Gameboy”
Before there were smartphones, kids used to play games that they can bring anywhere, one of which was Water “Gameboy”. This gaming device doesn’t need batteries nor an internet connection, as you’d only rely on the buttons which push air to the object on the screen.
It’s so simple to play it as you just need to push the buttons to propel the rings while you’re trying to get all of those rings to land on the posts. Although it sounds simple, this game’s quite challenging actually -- you might get tilted after failing to put the rings to the posts.
Has anyone of you played Water “Gameboy”?
2. Yoyo
This toy also used to be so popular among kids back in its heyday. Almost every kid had a yoyo and competed with others. Whether it’s a freestyle competition or just a friendly competition to find out who could spin the discs the longest. This toy enjoyed worldwide popularity back when video games weren’t as big as today.
If you’re an expert at playing yoyo, your friends would stay for minutes just to be awed by your skills. Due to the aesthetical appeal, there were a lot of national and international yoyo competitions. Do you still keep your favorite yoyo?
3. Tetris Brick Game
Tetris Brick Game was one of the most addictive games back in the day. Despite the name “Tetris Brick Game”, that doesn’t mean that you could only play Tetris on it. The game also offers several fun mini-games. Considering the technology wasn’t as advanced as today, it had pixelated graphics, which might be unappealing for kids nowadays.
But, believe it or not, this console managed to get many kids in the 90s addicted!

You can play a game of Bekel by yourself, but you can also play with multiple friends. This game was more popular among girls. However, it’s also common for boys to play it too.
In a game of Bekel, you need a rubber ball and several tokens called "kuwuk". Your hand-eye coordination really determines your success at Bekel.
7. Gameboy/Game & Watch
Last but not least, we have Game & Watch, or better known as Gameboy. Game & Watch is a game console developed by Nintendo. But, before Nintendo, Casio also came up with a mix of a watch and arcade games.
Seeing Casio’s smart move, Nintendo eventually came up with Game & Watch. Both companies made several games, but only a few were popular in Indonesia.
However, since not everyone could afford a Gameboy, some people opened up a rental business for kids who didn’t have one. Have you ever played Gameboy at a rental?
