22 Action Games Like Crows Zero, Time to Fight Like a Delinquent

1. Burning Edge

  • Platform: PS4

Produced by Bandai Namco, as the title suggests, this brawler game adapts the Crows manga. The story mode provides two different stories. One, following the adventures of Harumichi Bouya as in the manga and the film. The second story is about Sekijyo Masamune who has just transferred from Kennan High School to Suzuran. Unfortunately there is no English version. 

2. Crows: The Battle Action

  • Platform: Saturn

A chibi-style Crows beat-em-up game. Like Burning Edge, this title was only released in Japan. 

3. Uppers

  • Platform: PS4, PS Vita, PC

On the Last Resort Island, one could gain great wealth and be admired by the people just from fighting. Driven by strength, motivation, and burning passion, two men named Ranma and Michiru arrive on the island and set out to become number one -- but they're not the only ones... 

4. Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou

  • Platform: PSP

This Yakuza series spin-off tells the story of a delinquent Tatsuya Ukyo who, while trying to rob the Chinese mafia, accidentally kills a member of the Tojo Yakuza Clan, Naoki Toda. He is then caught by the leader of the Toda family, Ryutaro Kuki, who introduces him to Dragon Heat, an underground fighting circuit. Tatsuya then had to win 10 matches in a row there if he didn't want to be taken to the authorities. 

Kurohyou got a live-action adaptation that aired on October 5 to December 21, 2010, as well as a manga series that was released in December 2010. Kurohyou 2 was then released on March 22, 2012. For those of you who want to try playing it, luckily the English fantranslation project has finished being worked on. 

5. Yakuza

  • Platform: PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC

Yakuza gang member Kazuma Kiryu works with the Tojo Clan but he wants to leave the criminal life behind for good and run an orphanage in order to return to the life of an ordinary person. 

6. Judgement

  • Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC

Besides Kurohyou, another action-packed Yakuza spin-off that you can play is Judgement. Here we follow the adventures of Takayuki Yagami, a former lawyer who later chooses to become a private detective. 

7. Kenka Bancho

  • Platform: PS2, PSP, 3DS

This open-world game not only presents exciting battles between school delinquents, but you can learn new fighting styles, date girls, and even dress your delinquent’s outfits to be as cool, scary, or ridiculous as possible. For those of you who want to taste this series but don't know Japanese, Kenka Bancho 3 has been translated into English as Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble. On the other hand, Kenka Bancho Otome spin-off invites you on a date with the bad guys. 

8. GachiTora! Abarenbou Kyoushi in High School

  • Platform: PSP

In this Kenka Bancho spin-off, instead of controlling delinquent students, we play as a teacher who has to face his rowdy students. Fighting fire with fire like the Great Teacher Onizuka, so to speak. 

9. Tokyo Beat Down

  • Platform: NDS

This brawler game tells the adventures of detective Lewis Cannon and his squad. They are nicknamed "beast cops" because of their extreme way of dealing with the criminals who are disrupting the city of Tokyo, by beating or shooting them first before asking questions. 

10. The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa

  • Platform: Switch, Xbox One, PC

High school gang leader Ringo Ishikawa is about to graduate, and we're controlling the final autumn of Ringo's high school life. With his friends you can explore the city, chat with the locals, study, spend time playing ping-pong and video games, or fight with other gangs. 

11. River City Ransom

  • Platform: NES, SNES, GBA, 3DS

The story of this classic beat-em-up game is simple. High school students Alex and Ryan (Kunio and Riki in the Japanese version) must reach River City High and save Ryan's girlfriend, Cyndi, from the clutches of a villain named Slick. Even so, this series became popular thanks to its humor and RPG elements.

12. River City Girls

This River City Ransom spin-off is a putting spin in the original story. Now Misako and Kyoko must fight and save Kunio and Riki from villains instead. 

13. Bully

  • Platform: PS2, PS Vita, PC, Android, iOS,

If you have enough playing as a Japanese school delinquent, you can try being a Western school delinquent in the Rockstar-developed Bully game. 

14. The Warriors

  • Platform: PS2, PSP

Based on the film of the same name, in this adventure game you play the members of the The Warriors gang based in Coney Island, New York, United States. 

15. Final Fight Streetwise

  • Platform: PS2, Xbox

This sequel to Capcom's legendary beat-em-up series follows the adventures of Kyle Travers, Cody's brother, as he tries to unravel the mystery of Cody's disappearance. You can freely explore the city but the game will end when your health runs out. 

16. Final Fight

  • Platform: Arcade, NES, SNES, GBA, PS2, PSP

Capcom's beat-em-up series. Here the delinquent Cody, a ninja named Guy, and former wrestler Haggar must save Jessica (Cody's girlfriend and Haggar's daughter) from the hands of the Mad Gear Gang. 

17. Streets of Rage

  • Platform: Arcade, Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC

SEGA's popular title that inspired Final Fight. Here three ex-cops named Axel, Blaze, and Adam are forced to fight in the shadows in order to reach and defeat Mr. X, a dangerous crime boss. 

18. Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance

  • Platform: PS2, Xbox

In this adventure-RPG you control one of five street fighters: Raven, Jason G, Aaron, Gina, or Lola. They are being chased by the Las Sombras mafia after accidentally seeing the corpse of a drug dealer when assigned to take the money from a drug deal. 

19. Urban Reign

  • Platform: PS2

Urban Reign tells the story of a hired thug, Brad Hawk, who is hired to find a gang member who was kidnapped by the warrior Shun Ying Lee. Developed by Namco, you can unlock Tekken characters Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law as secret characters. 

20. The Bouncer

  • Platform: PS2

In this Square (before merging with Enix) game, three fictional city bouncers Edge go to the rescue of their friend from the Mikado Group, a solar technology company owned by Dauragon C. Mikado. 

21. The TakeOver

  • Platform: PC

An indie beat-em-up game inspired by Streets of Rage and Final Fight. Fight alone or with friends in Arcade, Survival and Challenge modes. 

22. Def Jam

  • Platform: PS2, PSP, Gamecube, Xbox

Produced by AKI Corporation, Kurohyou’s developer, and published by EA, this classic PS2 title tells the conflict between hip-hop gangs complete by featuring famous singers including Snoop Dog, Ice-T, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, DMX, and others.
