Mortal Kombat live-action finally premiers. This is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film that was released in 1995. It tells the story of a fighting tournament held on an isolated island. The tournament is joined by Earth’s best fighters and Outworld’s best fighters.

Before you watch the Mortal Kombat live-action film, it’s best if you learn about the games first. Below is the list of the best Mortal Kombat  games ever released. What are they? Find out below.

1. Mortal Kombat (1992)

Mortal Kombat was first introduced in 1992. The game exists thanks to the booming action film at that time. So Midway Games developed a fighting game based on Ed Boon and John Tobias’s idea. The first Mortal Kombat was developed with real life actors making it more realistic than other fighting games.

It was so realistic that Mortal Kombat became one of the controversial games. Because the game shows a sadistic aspect that didn’t exist in other games. But it became a trademark of Mortal Kombat.

2. Mortal Kombat II (1993)

After the successful first game, Midway Games released Mortal Kombat II. Where there were new characters added to the game, one of those was Kitana. In Mortal Kombat II, Midway Games added several updates to make the game more fun. Midway Games also introduced a new formula called Fatality which became the identity of the game. For the graphics, it was still similar to before. But with real actors and fresher costumes and moves.

3. Mortal Kombat 4 (1997)

In 1997, Midway Games made a significant leap with 3D graphics. But the 3D graphics were too chaotic compared to the previous version with real actors. Besides the graphics, the fourth game introduced new characters such as Quan Chi, Shinnok, Reiko, and Jarek. Mortal Kombat 4 also received praises for introducing mixed martial arts with weapons.

4. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002)

Mortal Kombat 4 (1997) may be disappointing because of the lousy 3D graphics. Not wanting to repeat their mistake, Midway Games developed Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance that was released in 2002. The 3D graphics quality is excellent and enjoyable. So it’s not surprising to see Deadly Alliance becoming one of the best games by Midway Games.

Besides the graphics, Midway Games also freshen up the fighters’ look. There are new faces such as Kenshi, Bo ’Rai Cho, and Nitara.

5. Mortal Kombat: Deception (2004)

Mortal Kombat: Deception was developed by adding the best features of Deadly Alliance. Starting with the improved 3D graphics, smoother gameplay, and adding a number of awesome Fatalities. Deception presents a 3D environment that is bigger and more interactive, where the player can use the environment to take out their opponent.

Other features include Konquest and mini-games, such as Puzzle Kombat similar to Super Puzzle Fighter II.

Midway Games expected Mortal Kombat: Armageddon to close the era of Mortal Kombat on PS2 and Xbox. So Midway Games developed Armageddon in a very grand style, by presenting every character that appeared in the game to that moment.

There’s not much difference with Deception, including the fighting styles. This game also has a unique feature called Kreate-a-Fatality, where the player can create their own Fatality.

7. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (2008)

In 2008, Midway Games alongside Warner Bros. collaborated to present a fighting game combining Mortal Kombat and DC titled Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. As the name suggests, the game presents a unique because it combines the fighters of two different sides. Besides combining two different franchises, the game also received upgraded graphics when released for PS3 and Xbox 360. In this game you can see Sub-Zero fight superheroes and villains from the DC Universe such as Batman, Superman, and Joker.

8. Mortal Kombat (2011)

Mortal Kombat 9 or Mortal Kombat (2011) is a game every Mortal Kombat fan has to play. Unlike the games before, this series is an evolved version of the sleeping franchise and left by its fans. The series was no longer managed by Midway Games, but by Netherrealm Studio. The success of NetherRealm Studios in developing the game with realistic graphics  and dynamic fights made the fans return. So it’s not surprising that Mortal Kombat 9 is a great game for veteran and new fans.

9. Mortal Kombat X (2015)

After the success of the previous version, Netherrealm Studios released Mortal Kombat X in 2015. This game was a successful fighting game thanks to the gameplay. The success of Netherrealm developing Mortal Kombat X also helped the game reach 35 million units sold globally since the game was first released in the 1990s. Besides Mortal Kombat characters, the game also presents characters from other franchises to make the game more exciting.

10. Mortal Kombat 11 (2019)

Mortal Kombat 11 was released by NetherRealm and is still popular to this date. The 11th game is bigger, wilder, and more brutal. Making it a bloodier fighting game. Despite the threats of not being released in several countries including Indonesia, Mortal Kombat 11 is considered as one of the best Mortal Kombat games in history.
