When we talk about competitive games like esports titles, surely we often imagine Dota 2, PUBG, Counter-Strike, and other games that ask you to finish off each other to be the winner of the matches. But playing competitive games doesn't mean you have to be sadistic! Do you not believe it? Here, let’s check the list of some competitive games that are safe to be played by kids of all ages below.

1. Splatoon - Switch

In Nintendo’s latest PVP shooter series, you play the role of an Inkling, a humanoid kid who can turn into a squid. In a match between two teams, your job is not to shoot the members of the opposing team until they’re all gone, but instead to shoot paint all over the surface of the arena with your team’s color. Of course, the team that filled the largest area with their color is the winner.

Interestingly, you can traverse through walls and floors that have been painted when you become a squid. Either to hide, replenish your paint supply, or even as a way to ambush careless enemies! You can also "splat" opponents if they are shot by your paints for too long, but unlike Call of Duty or PUBG, which show bloods everywhere, the Inklings will just explode like cartoon characters and respawn again not long after. Bright cartoony graphics and refreshing competitive gameplay make Splatoon very suitable for all ages.

2. Knockout City - PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One

This latest game released by Electronic Arts is a dodgeball game. As might’ve suspected, you have to dodge the opponent's ball and then take it for yourself to counterattack. You can increase your power by passing the ball to a teammate, or even curl up and make yourself the ball for a friend to throw so you can get into strategic positions that the opposing team doesn't expect. Luckily EA provides a demo for Knockout City, so you can try it out before buying the game.

3. FIFA/PES - Most Gaming Consoles

Talking about sports games, of course, soccer games are the best competitive title for kids. Not only because soccer is one of the most popular sports in Indonesia, but in video games the element of violence is barely there. A tackle will not show the player's leg bleeding everywhere or broken legs; at most someone will just roll around while the only red color that appears will just be coming out of the referee's hand. FIFA, PES, or FIFA Street. Whichever game you choose is sure to be fun to play with friends. As long as you don't get emotional when the red card comes out.

4. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout - PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One

Remember Fall Guys, the multiplayer game that pits you against dozens other players in ridiculous obstacles? This Takeshi Castle or Ninja Warrior-like battle royale is not as populated as it used to be when it was viral, but its unique gameplay makes this game still worth playing. Developer Mediatonic is still frequently updating this game with a variety of new costumes, from Godzilla, Doom, to Bomberman and Tron

5. RAWMEN - PC

When it comes to games with weird gameplay (and graphics), there's another new title that might catch your eye: RAWMEN. This food-themed competitive multiplayer game features a number of game modes that are sure to entertain you and your friends. Such as capturing the pot in Claim Chowder, rolling around to the finish line in Meatball mode, getting past an obstacle course while collecting bullion cubes in Top RAWMEN mode, and many more. Even though the theme is about food, the writer thinks this game won't make you feel hungry, though...

6. Windjammers 2 - PC, Switch, Stadia

In case you want a simpler competitive game, you can try this on. It's more or less works just like Pong or tennis game in general; both players throw a disc back and forth towards each opponent's goal until someone scores the most points. The first title, which was originally an arcade game, is already available on PS4, PS Vita, and Switch, but unfortunately, there is no definite date when Windjammers 2 will be released.

7. Guts And Goals - PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X

And the last game is Guts And Goals. You could say this is actually just a variation of the usual soccer game. It's just that each player is given a bat either to hit the ball until it reaches the goal -- or to beat up each other. An alternative to everyday soccer games that is… uhhh, filled with more fighting. And I thought this is supposed to be a list of competitive games with minimal violence?
