[OPINION] 8 Squaresoft Games That Might be Rarely Played!
Have any of you played any of these Squaresoft games?
Anime & Manga | 17 February
Before changing its name to Square Enix, the developer of the Final Fantasy games was known as Squaresoft. Squaresoft's golden age was when the Playstation was very popular. Some of Squaresoft's games were quite popular at that time, but some were rarely played or less popular. In this article, Dunia Games wants to talk about Squaresoft games that might be rarely played!
1. Brave Fencer Musashi
Ever played The Legend of the Mystical Ninja on the SNES? Brave Fencer Musashi has nothing to do with the game, but the feel is quite similar. There is an army of ninjas and ruthless monsters who are chasing a small samurai in a kingdom. Many things in the kingdom were named after food.
This game got a sequel on PS2, Musashi Legend. Unfortunately, this game did not last long because it was less popular. Squaresoft also decided not to continue the series of this game.
Could it be that only RPGs are suitable for Squaresoft to develop? This is because most of the popular games by Squaresoft (Square Enix) are RPGs.
2. Chocobo's Dungeon 2
Chocobo's Dungeon 2 is also one of Squaresoft's games that proved less popular. This game is a spin-off of a spin-off because it belongs to the Fushigi no Dungeon franchise, otherwise known as Mystery Dungeon in the West.
Likewise, similar games such as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are less popular. Chocobo itself is a character introduced in the Final Fantasy series and appears in all of the series.
3. Parasite Eve 2
The first series of Parasite Eve can be said to be a good game and quite popular. Some players say the sequel is also good, but some things are unclear. Like Legend of Mana, this is a console release that was released in late 2000. You could say this game is like Resident Evil with RPG elements.
Aya Brea is still the protagonist with her magic. Because some elements are felt to be lacking from this game, Parasite Eve 2 was not as popular as the first series. It feels like this is one of the most rarely played Squaresoft games.
4. Bushido Blade 2
Technically, Bushido Blade 2 is not an RPG. Bushido Blade 2 is more like a fighting game with samurai and ninja concepts. This game is also one of Squaresoft's most unpopular works.
The possibility that makes this game less attractive is the fighting style which is fairly rigid at the time. It's much different if we compare it to some popular fighting games like Tekken or Bloody Roar.
5. SaGa Frontier 2
The SaGa series games may always look a little weird. The idea of this story is inspired by Final Fantasy II. This is an RPG where the actions the player chooses will affect stats. If you are frequently attacked, your HP and defense will increase. Use magic a lot? Then MP and magic power will increase.
That's the idea that brought SaGa. Unfortunately, the lower budget makes this supposedly interesting game less desirable. If Squaresoft developed this game longer, maybe the SaGa series could become more popular.
6. Front Mission 3
Would Final Fantasy Tactics sound good if the characters were replaced with robots? You will probably say no! Front Mission 3 was the first game released for the SNES or Super Famicom in Japan in 1995.
Just like the Gundam anime, Front Mission explores the culture of war and offers interesting perspectives for both parties. In this game, you will also see various explosions released by the robots. As the initial point, this game is likely to be less popular because of the tactical fighting system that doesn't match the concept of robots.
7. Threads of Fate
Threads of Fate can be said to be the predecessor of Kingdom Hearts. This game features cute monsters to fight which can also transform into various weapons. Players can take the form of enemies to solve puzzles and also fight. This game was released in 2000.
Threads of Fate was also the last RPG that Squaresoft released for PS1 before they focused on developing the next game on PS2. Unfortunately, this RPG is not popular enough so maybe not many RPG lovers know about it.
8. The Bouncer
The Bouncer is the first Squaresoft game that was released for PS2 in 2000. This game tells the story of 3 people called bouncers who try to save their friends from a certain group.
The storyline that is presented varies depending on the characters used. This game may have been popular, but not so long. After its popularity waned, Squaresoft decided not to continue this series. Because of that, maybe few of you know about this game.
