The official website for the anime adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's phenomenal Gintama manga announced on Sunday, February 11th 2024 that the Ikkoku Keisei (Courtesan of the Nation) arc will soon receive a compilation screening. Gintama on Theater 2D: Ikkoku Keisei-hen will hit cinemas for a limited screening in June 2024.

This compilation screening will have its own official website which will be launched soon. The Ikkoku Keisei arc covers episodes 257-261 of the Gintama anime, which is one of the arcs that fans are highly anticipating.

This announcement comes after a successful three-week limited run for the Baragaki (Thorny) arc, which begins in Japanese theaters on November 10th 2023.

This arc compilation is part of a series celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Gintama franchise. 2023 will mark 20 years since the debut of the Gintama manga first presented by Hideaki Sorachi, while 2026 will be the 20th anniversary of the debut of the Gintama television anime series. Previously, Yorinuki Gintama-san's run of the television anime series had produced two "on Theater 2D" compilations in 2012 and 2013.

Apart from that, the spinoff novel series entitled 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei (Class 3-Z's Teacher Ginpachi) by Tomohito Osaki will also get an anime adaptation. This adds to the long list of expansions of the Gintama franchise into various media.

The Gintama manga debuted in 2003 and ended in June 2019 after selling more than 55 million copies. This work has inspired several television anime series with a total of 367 episodes, along with three previous anime films.

The newest anime series premiered in July 2018. Additionally, the Gintama manga has also inspired various OVAs, a special anime event, two live action movies, and two live action net spinoffs. Viz Media has published the first 23 volumes of the manga in English.

Gintama THE VERY FINAL (Gintama: The Final), the third and latest anime movie based on the ending of the original manga, was released in Japan in January 2021. The movie presents a mix of a satisfying ending to the main story with exciting new story elements. A digital version of the movie was released in January 2022, followed by a Blu-ray Disc and DVD release in February 2022.

Additionally, the manga also inspired a special net anime entitled Gintama The Semi-Final, which serves as a two-episode prequel to Gintama THE VERY FINAL. This internet anime premiered exclusively in Japan via the dTV online service in January 2021. Apart from that, this movie is also accompanied by a novel by Mirei Miyamoto which was released in January 2024.
