Microsoft has recently announced that WordPad, the basic document editor that has been around since 1995, will be discontinued. Recent reports indicate that after years of receiving updates and additional features from Microsoft, WordPad is now entering its final days.
A post on Twitter shared by @XenoPanther reveals that WordPad will no longer be getting updates from Microsoft. Furthermore, the application will be removed from future releases of Windows. This post shares a link to the official Microsoft website, where notice of this discontinuation was provided. At the same time, Microsoft recommends users switch to Microsoft Word for .doc and .rtf format documents or Notepad for .txt documents.
Although the exact release date for Windows 12 is unknown, this platform is currently under development. This provides an opportunity for users to adapt to other text editors, especially Microsoft Word.
In other news related to Windows 12, reported by Gizmochina on September 4, Windows 12 codenamed "Next Valley" will likely have an 8GB RAM requirement, double that of Windows 11. While there is no specific information regarding storage requirements yet, speculation suggests that Microsoft may abandon the hard disk drive (HDD) in favor of a solid-state drive (SSD) as the primary storage medium for OS installations.
Another interesting addition is the possible compatibility of Windows 12 with 14th Generation Intel Meteor Lake-S desktop processors. While information on Meteor Lake-S is currently limited, it will be interesting to see how the two will collaborate in the future.
With the end of the WordPad era and the arrival of Windows 12, one thing is certain: the future of Microsoft technology promises a lot of change and innovation.
