Halo: Campaign Evolved marks a defining milestone for the Halo franchise. For the first time ever, the legendary sci-fi shooter steps into the PlayStation ecosystem after more than two decades as an Xbox icon. Announced by Xbox Game Studios and Halo Studios, this full remake is slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Subscribers to Game Pass will also gain instant access at launch.

At the Halo World Championship 2025, Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard described the moment as a “new era” for the franchise. He explained that expanding Halo’s reach is a celebration of its legacy and enduring impact on players worldwide. “We just want more people to fall in love with Halo the same way we did 24 years ago,” Jarrard said enthusiastically. For long-time fans, this marks a chance to welcome a new wave of Spartans into the Halo universe.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Jarrard confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will debut simultaneously across all platforms. He concluded with an iconic quote from Master Chief himself: “I think we’re just getting started.” The statement perfectly captures the spirit of renewal and expansion defining this next chapter of Halo’s journey.

This remake reimagines the origins of Master Chief’s story with a blend of nostalgia and modern design. Expect high-definition visuals, newly directed cinematics, and refined controls that make every encounter feel smoother while retaining the intensity of the original. Additionally, three brand-new prequel missions will explore the relationship between Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Beyond visual improvements, Halo: Campaign Evolved offers versatile gameplay options. Players can experience the campaign solo, in two-player split-screen (on console), or in up to four-player online co-op featuring full cross-play and cross-progression support. Whether it’s your first time stepping onto the ring or your return after 25 years, this version promises both familiarity and fresh discovery.

The narrative follows Master Chief and his AI companion Cortana as they crash-land on the enigmatic ringworld known as Halo. Stranded among hostile Covenant forces, they must uncover the ring’s ancient secrets and prevent the extinction of all sentient life in the galaxy.

Among the remake’s standout features are rebuilt campaign levels, enhanced cinematics, and remastered sound design for deeper immersion. Players can wield nine additional iconic weapons from across the series such as the Energy Sword and Battle Rifle introducing new strategies to every encounter. For the first time, hijacking enemy vehicles and piloting a fully drivable Wraith bring chaos and fun to the battlefield.

Finally, the campaign remix system allows players to revisit missions with customizable “Skulls” modifiers, introducing randomized weapons, enemies, and environmental twists that add replayability and challenge.
