After Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami resigned from Capcom, now it’s Hideaki Itsuno's turn to exit. The creator of Dragon's Dogma and Devil May Cry officially left Capcom after 30 years of contributing to the Japanese game company.
Itsuno made his announcement on August 31, revealing that that month would be his last at Capcom after more than 30 years of work. His final project at Capcom this year was Dragon’s Dogma, and before that, he worked on Devil May Cry 5. According to Itsuno, he plans to work on a new game, although it’s unclear what kind of game or where he will be developing it.
Itsuno’s departure has dealt a significant blow to gamers, especially those who love the Devil May Cry franchise. Many fans shared their thoughts about the news on Reddit.
Community Reactions to Itsuno’s Departure
One fan commented that fans must be crying right now. This fan’s comment was quite witty as well. They wrote, “I guess Devils Do Cry now” one fan said. Another fan mentioned Itsuno’s fate being similar to Hideo Kojima’s.
“Devil may cry: survive – coming soon to a future near you” quipped another fan.
"I’m feeling this, and DMC5 is my favorite game of all time and the only game I’ve bought at full price in a long time. I wish the best for the series, but I’m very scared” another fan shared, expressing their despair.
Although no new game is on the horizon, Devil May Cry is preparing to be released as an anime. Similar to Castlevania, the anime is expected to reignite fan interest.
