Indonesia dominate the 32nd SEA Games esports sporting programme in Cambodia. The decisive moments in this sporting programme unfolded dramatically as three countries shared the chance of becoming the overall champion: Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Indonesia cemented their spot as the overall champion of esports events during the last moments in the PUBG Mobile Solo event with Alan Kumaseh winning silver for Indonesia.

The silver medal won by Alan in the PUBG Mobile Solo event meant that Indonesia has accumulated three gold from Valorant, MLBB Women, and PUBG Mobile Team, and two silvers from CrossFire and PUBG Mobile Solo.

Meanwhile, the host Cambodia finished second with: 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. The Philippines, the most powerful force in the Southeast Asian esports scene, had to settle for third place with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze.

PB ESI Secretary General, Frengky Ong said, “It's a glorious feat. In the midst of the increasingly fierce competition in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is once again proving to be the strongest country in the region. We're able to achieve the feat of becoming the overall champion in an international tournament after the IESF World Esports Championship in Bali December 2022, and then Indonesia also succeeded in becoming the overall champion. However, despite the brilliant achievements we have made in the 32nd SEA Games Cambodia, we will continue to evaluate our journey for us to grow.

PB ESI Secretary General expressed his appreciation for the athletes who have given their all, sacrificing their interests and time to represent Indonesia in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.

The same was also stated by the coaches, the National Team Board, the National Team Manager, and all the stakeholders who have given their support for the national team in the 32nd SEA Games Esports in Cambodia.

What makes it more impressive, the esports programme is one of the sporting programmes that was included due to the demand of the participating countries, not just as an additional sporting programme. Which means that the esports programme was very competitive,” he added.

2023 SEA Games Esports: Winning the Last Silver Medal Helped Indonesia Becoming the Overall Champion

The uproar from the Indonesian esports fans at the Olympic Mall was followed by the last silver for the country, won by Alan Kumaseh in the PUBG Mobile Solo event. From match 1 to 3, he played it safe and with a conservative approach to the game. Only when the match entered the fourth game, he displayed a much more aggressive approach. However, he was eliminated in the 8th round, and sat in 38th. However, he managed to grab 12 eliminations and 83 overall points.

I’m grateful with this achievement. Considering that I already won gold for Indonesia with PUBGM Squad. This feat repeats my personal achievement in the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi. Hopefully, in the next SEA Games, (the Indonesian) PUBGM team can make greater achievements. Thanks to PB ESI, coach, the National Team Manager, and all the technical and non-technical members of the team who have contributed to our achievement in PUBGM, and other esports events that Indonesia took part in. I’d like to dedicate this feat to all Indonesians!” Alan concluded.

Congratulations to Indonesia for becoming the overall champion of the 2023 SEA Games esports events!
