Before being reincarnated as Rudeus, he was an unemployed 34-year-old man living in Japan who suffered a tragic life. But currently, he has a high affinity for magic, even in a body of a child.

1. Has a Tragic Past

Before being reincarnated as Rudeus Greyrat, he had a tragic life. He was an unemployed man who always got bullied during his high school years. Due to the severity of the circumstances, he was forced to quit school and started being a recluse.

His family would always encourage him to get back to school, yet he would always refuse. There was at least one classmate with whom he had a good relationship who came by every day to bring him homework. However, he pushed him away too when he also tried to get him to return to school.

As time went on, he continued being a shut-in for about twenty years. However, this toxic lifestyle finally came to an end when his parents passed away and he refused to even attend their funeral. This ended up being the last straw for his remaining relatives, prompting them to disown him.

Homeless and had no money, he wandered the streets aimlessly while reflecting on his life until he came across and saved three high school students from a speeding truck.

He got run over by the truck and got reincarnated as Rudeus Greyrat.

2. Got Reincarnated to the Isekai with Amazing Powers

After his death, he was reborn with his memories still intact. But that’s not all, he’s also reborn with a powerful Laplace Factor -- which is the reason why he has such enormous magical power. 

After he underwent rigorous training, Rudeus managed to master several magical abilities at an early age.

3. Taught by Roxy Migurdia, a Migurd Mage

When Rudeus Greyrat was about 2 years old, he accidentally destroyed a wall of the family’s house with an intermediate rank magic, Water Cannon. The incident amazed Rudeus’ parents, who then hired a teacher for him, Roxy Migurdia.

Initially, Roxy thought that Rudeus couldn’t be that talented and his parents were probably exaggerating. However, after seeing Rudeus using magic without chanting, Roxy’s opinion towards Rudeus started to shift.

For several years, Roxy taught him elementary rank magic, before eventually introducing him to Water Saint-level spells.

After graduating from Roxy’s training and becoming a Water Saint, Roxy also helped Rudeus to overcome his fear of the outside world – something that was holding him back in his previous life.

4. He’s Able to Use Magic Without Chanting

Rudeus is one of the handfuls of people who can use magic without chanting out the spell, and also one of the rarest people who can use combined magic without chanting. However, he cannot do the same thing for healing magic due to his lack of understanding of mana manipulation for healing.

An average mage needs at least five seconds for a simple spell, whereas it takes them thirty to sixty seconds for higher-level magic. Rudeus only needs a couple of seconds, regardless of the level of the magic he’s using, except for healing magic. 

5. He Tries to Make the Most of His Second Chance

Rudeus Greyrat always sees himself as useless and a burden towards anyone around him in his previous life. Thus, he always tries to make the most of his new life. He wants to become a better person and vows to live as a useful person.

6. A Humble Individual

Knowing his mistakes in his previous life, Rudeus tries not to repeat them in his current life. Despite his powers, Rudeus tries not to get carried away and become arrogant. Instead, he focuses to help his friends and family.

7. Was Born into the Well-Off Greyrat Family

Greyrat is an old noble family and is highly respected in the new world that Rudeus lives in. The Greyrat Family is divided into four noble houses: Notos, Boreas, Euro, and Zephyrus.

8. Fluent in Four Languages at a Very Young Age

At the young age of 9, during the time he would tutor Eris, Rudeus was already fluent in Magic God, Beast God, Fighting God, and Human languages. Rudeus also wanted to learn other languages such as Heaven God and Sea God, yet he couldn’t get his hands on any learning material like books to help him understand them.

But as the series went on, Rudeus finally managed to find a book from the Sea race to help him learn the language.

9. Eris Boreas Greyrat's Tutor

When he was 7, Rudeus received an offer to tutor a girl named Eris Boreas Greyrat to help her improve in reading, writing, mathematics, languages, and magic. Eris was initially rude towards him, but Rudeus managed to calm her down and build a good relationship with her.

10. Received His First Wand/Staff When He Was 10

On his 10-th birthday, Rudeus received his first magic wand from Eris. The wand/staff is called Aqua Heartia, which is made from a wood that comes from a tree called Elder Torrent, that grows in the forest east of the Mills Continent.

The tip of the Aqua Heartia is embellished with a fist-sized Magical stone that comes from a stray dragon in Begaliid. This wand was made by none other than Chein Procyon – from the Asura kingdom palace’s Magic team.

Aqua Heartia became Rudeus’ most prized possession given that it’s his first wand.

Ruijerd understands that Aqua Hertia is very important for Rudeus, and he tried to convince him not to sell it when Rudeus was trying to find a way to make quick money.

11. Received His Demon Eye from the Demon Kishirika Kishirisu

After he gave the starving Kishirika some food, Kishirika gave a Demon Eye for Rudeus to return the favor. The Demon Eye allows Rudeus to see into the future, yet it can only be used for several seconds. The further Rudeus tries to see into the future, the less reliable his foresight gets as the outcomes become blurred together.

This Demon Eye also allows Rudeus to foresee the movements of his opponents as he’s able to see 10 seconds into the future.

12. A Combat Genius

Rudeus Greyrat has been known as a genius in battle. During his first encounter with Paul, Rudeus was shrewd enough to trap Paul’s legs to limit his movements.

When he becomes an Adventurer, Rudeus always comes up with the best strategy to get the upper hand over his opponents.

13. He’s Not Afraid of the Superd Tribe, Or Even Orsted

In his first meeting with Ruijerd, Rudeus Greyrat didn’t appear to be scared, unlike most people, to stand right in front of a member of the Superd Tribe.

This also happened when he first met Orsted. While Ruijerd and Eris were frozen out of fear, Rudeus was able to casually strike a conversation with Orsted.

14. Saved Sylphiette from Her Bullies

When Sylphiette was a child, she would get bullied for having emerald green hair like a Superd. These bullies would throw mud or rocks at Sylphiette and even kick her too. Rudeus, who just got his courage to get out to the real world saw it and saved Sylphiette.

Since then, Rudeus would teach Sylphiette magic and the technique to use magic without chanting.

15. Rudeus’ Name in His Previous Life Remains Unknown

To this day, Rudeus Greyrat’s name before his reincarnation remains the biggest mystery in Mushoku Tensei. His name is yet to be revealed in the manga and anime.
