When the Mega Evolution feature arrived in Pokemon GO, the most common way for Trainers to collect Mega Energy is by defeating Mega Evolution Raid Bosses.
To collect Mega Energy for Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, Trainers rely solely on Mega Raids. But it’s not the case for Mega Beedrill, we can get the Mega Energy without doing Raids.
The first method to get the Mega Energy for Beedrill is by completing the Special Researches (on the Special tab in the Research menu) ‘A Mega Discovery’. It’s fairly easy to complete the research, but there are some tips for completing some of these missions:
- Earn Candy walking with your buddy: Swap your Buddy with Pokemon with lower candy distance such as Magikarp (1KM)
- Defeat Team GO Rocket Grunt: Between 12:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M., and 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Team Rocket Balloons will spawn and ready to challenge you for a battle (appears for 10 minutes)
- Mega Raid: Make friends with other Trainers, and then invite or get invited for Mega Raids using the Remote Raid Pass, the more friends you make the better.
In total, from these Special Researches, you will receive 175 Mega Energy for Beedrill.
The next method is by completing the Field Research Tasks from Pokestop. Niantic provides us with the opportunity to get Mega Energy from Pokestop to make it easier for Trainers to obtain them for free (unlike the Mega Raids).
It’s not just for Beedrill, you can also receive Mega Energy for Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur from these Field Research Tasks from Pokestop if you’re lucky. And the missions in these tasks are pretty easy to complete.
The third one is by getting them from the Timed Research Tasks. At the moment, the available one is the Mega Battle Challenge. The Timed Research task mostly involves Raid Battles. But aside from those, they are relatively easy to complete.
The total amount of energy you can get from these Timed Research tasks is 135 Mega Energy for Beedrill. But that’s not all, because you can also get an Upgrade & Sinnoh Stone for you to use on Community Day Porygon on September 20. Roserade also comes as the reward, with powerful Grass-type attacks.
It takes 100 Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your Beedrill for the first time, but then it will be reduced to 20 Mega Energy for subsequent Mega Evolutions.
