Every competitive game, including Apex Legends, has its own Ranking System for players to climb, hone their skills, and be put with other players within the same skill level. Now, for those of you who are just starting your climb, but still confused about the Ranking System in Apex Legends, be sure to check out this article!
The Ranking System in Apex Legends
The overall gameplay in Ranked matches is completely similar to the Trios mode. You can play solo or in a party of three players against 19 other teams. All players will be put in a lobby based on their RP (Rank Points).
Before a player can play in Ranked matches, they need to reach at least level 10 to unlock this game mode. There are no arduous requirements to play Ranked!
There’s one thing that separates the Ranking system in Apex Legends from other games, which is the Ranked Split system. Ranked Splits occur in the middle of the season, where all of the RP of the players will be partially reset, usually dropping them 2-3 tiers down. The ranked split system is implemented to set inactive players aside from their respective ranks.
During a ranked split, the active map changes for the remainder of that season.
Ranks in Apex Legends
The first five tiers have four divisions each, with division four being the lowest in each tier. Apex Predator is a specific tier, consists of only the top 750 players per platform.
Bronze: 0 RP
Silver: 1200 RP
Gold: 2800 RP
Platinum: 4800 RP
Diamond: 7200 RP
Master: 10000 RP
Apex Predator: Top 750 players with over 10000 RP
How to Earn RP in Apex Legends
Players earn Rank Point (RP) after each match, which is based on their performance throughout the match.
One of the easiest ways to earn RP is to get in the top 10. The top 10 players will get RP based on their place in the top 10 of the match. The amount of RP gained ranges from 10 RP to 100 RP, depending on your rank.
Another way to earn RP is by getting kills or assists, each will grant you 10 RP, with the limit of 6 kills/assists per match. But there’s also a multiplier if you finished the match in the top 10. For example, if you finished 7th, you’ll earn 12 RP per kill/assist, instead of 10 RP.

RP Cost in Ranked
Each time you play Ranked, you lose several RP based on your current rank. Bronze-tier players won’t lose any RP, which certainly helps them to start their climb. For other ranks, the amount of RP cost required to play in each tier are as follow:
Silver: 12 RP
Gold: 24 RP
Platinum: 36 RP
Diamond: 48 RP
Master and Apex Predator: 60 RP
Since the RP cost scales with the tier of the player, higher tier players need to secure more kills and assists and survive longer in each match so that they won’t have to lose more points.
Leaver Penalty
Unlike the Trios mode, the Ranked queue has strict rules to avoid players from leaving the game when they still have the chance to get revived. The most lenient penalty is a 10-minute lockout from any game mode for the first violation, which will gradually be increased for subsequent violations.
Leaving the game also forfeits any RP you’d earned from the match.
Players are allowed to abandon the game without receiving a penalty if they’re dead and the banner timer runs out, or it’s been 150 seconds after teammates have picked up the banner yet haven’t respawned them.
If a player gets disconnected from the game before the dropship phase begins, the other players in the team can leave the game without receiving any penalty, or even losing the RP cost. While the disconnected player will be penalized.
Ranked Rewards
At the end of each Ranked season, players get rewards based on their highest tier achieved during the last two ranked split of that season. All players get a badge, which indicates their highest tier.
Whereas Gold and higher-tier players get a special weapon charm according to their standing. Diamond and higher-tier players get a special dive trail that can be used during the next season. The dive trail has specific colors that represent their tier and is visible to all players during the dropship.
