Back in the glory days of PlayStation 2, racing was one of the most exciting game genres -- given that, at the time, microtransaction hasn’t been rampant in video games. There are 10 of the best-of-all-time racing games on PS2, according to Dunia Games.

So, what are our picks for this list? Without further ado, let’s get into it!

10. Jak X: Combat Racing

Jak X: Combat Racing is a vehicular combat racing game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. This game was first released for PlayStation 2 on October 18, 2005.

The main plot of the game is centered around Jak and his friends, who have been poisoned, and forced to partake in combat racing to obtain the antidote.

9. Crash Tag Team Racing

Crash Tag Team Racing is the third racing game in the Crash Bandicoot series. It follows the protagonist, Crash Bandicoot, who has to win the ownership of a crumbling theme park by finding its Power Gems before his archrival, Doctor Neo Cortex.

8. Juiced

At number eight, we have Juiced, a game set in a fictional city called Angel City. Angel City is composed of eight districts: San Ricardo; Campbell Hills; Downtown; Angel North Central; Angel Westside; Southside Beach; East Angel Island and Anderson. The districts are controlled by rival crews, and players can host events at different districts once they have enough Respect.

This game offers numerous modes, from Circuit, Sprint, Point to Point, to Showoff.

7. Rumble Racing

Rumble Racing is basically a PlayStation 2 version of NASCAR Rumble as it was influenced by the racing game. Similar to NASCAR Rumble, Rumble Racing is a racing game with a powerup system, where you can summon a tornado to get the other players off the track.

6. Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix

Next, we have Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix, a racing game developed by Rockstar San Diego. This game is a collaborative work between Rockstar and DUB Magazine, which features in the game with DUB-sponsored races.

Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix is an open-world racing game and the first installment in the series to include car modification, both visual and performance. By winning races, the player unlocks new cars and options to customize them with.

These include enhancing the performance, adding vinyl and new paint jobs, and physically modifying the car by changing parts like the wheels, bumpers, spoilers, neon, hoods, and engines. In this game, cars are categorized into four classes: D, C, B, and A, based on their performance.

At number five, we have Gran Turismo 4, a racing game that used to be so popular at PlayStation 2 rentals during its heyday.

For its gameplay, the player has to accumulate points by winning races in the A-Spec mode. Each race yields up to 200 points. There are a lot of missions you can complete to get these points.

Aside from that, Gran Turismo 4 also features tons of cars, 721 cars in total, from 80 manufacturers -- which come with their respective strengths and weaknesses.

4. Burnout 3: Takedown

Next up, we have Burnout 3: Takedown. This game is quite different from the rest on this list as you don’t only take over your competitors like a regular race, but you can also destroy their cars.

3. Need for Speed: Underground 2

Need For Speed: Underground 2 was first released on November 9, 2004. Developed and published by EA, the game was a massive success both on console and PC. 1. Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Need for Speed: Most Wanted is arguably the best installment in the Need for Speed series ever released for PlayStation 2. It has an open-world concept with illegal street races, where the player has to win each race and defeat the Blacklist Races to complete the game.
