This South Korean Engineer Made a Tombstone For Internet Explorer
Microsoft has officially shut down Internet Explorer so a South Korean software engineer made a tomb to remember its service.
News | 20 June
Since its launch 27 years ago, Internet Explorer has become a mandatory browser for Windows users. Finally, Microsoft officially stopped the browsing service. This makes a software engineer from South Korea decide to build a tomb for the browser. The man, whose name is Jung Ki-young, revealed that he had designed and ordered the tombstone for the browser before the official closing date was announced.
Citing Engadget.com, Jung is known to have spent around 430,000 won or the equivalent of Rp. 4.9 million to order the Internet Explorer tombstone. The memorial features the IE icon logo containing an English epitaph that reads "He was a good tool to download other browsers"
In addition, Jung also mentioned that the tomb was made to commemorate Internet Explorer who had contributed greatly to his career. Although he also said the action was inspired by a love-hate relationship Jung felt with one of these internet browsers.
"It was a pain in the ass, but I would call it a love-hate relationship because Explorer itself once dominated an era,” he said.
Internet Explorer does have its own fans. Usually, the audience for Internet Explorer features comes from business circles that use it to operate e-learning simulator applications and website-based accounting. Jung is one example of a fan who has used Internet Explorer before other browsers, such as Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
To anticipate this, Microsoft has actually released the Microsoft Edge browser to replace its predecessor, Internet Explorer. Microsoft Edge is already supported by important features that previously existed in Internet Explorer. For business people who have been using Internet Explorer, they can switch to Microsoft Edge to support their work.
This tombstone made by Jung went viral on social media after being placed on the roof of his brother's cafe in the city of Gyeongju, South Korea. Jung argued, this is a joke to mark the closing of the Internet Explorer browser.
