Many people don’t know, it turns out that the artist behind the K/DA ALL OUT Evelynn KeyArt visuals is an illustrator from Indonesia, Iqnatius Budi. Budi has been studying professional illustration since 2010. This Surabaya man is a part of the 2D illustration team in Taipei, Kudos Productions.
Around August 2020, Budi received an offer from Riot Games Hongkong to create K/DA KeyArts for Pepsi collaboration. After the project was done, Budi immediately offered to join K/DA KeyArts that will debut with their latest EP, All Out.

The process of making KDA ALL OUT KeyArts wasn’t easy. First, the team that consists of 4 illustrators received a concept that had been created by Riot Games’ concept artist to be transformed into a promotional KeyArt following with K/DA ALL OUT image. Next, the illustrator team will make the initial sketches that are later added with line art, rough color, and ended with rendering or final polishing. All the processes took around 2 weeks.
Uniquely, during the development of K/DA ALL OUT KeyArts, the illustrator teams are free to choose which character they want to work on. From 4 K/DA beautiful Champions, Budi chose Evelynn as the character he wanted to work on.
“For me, her design (Evelynn) is cool, along with her lashers,” said Budi when asked about the reason he chose Evelynn.

For Budi, this collaboration becomes a precious moment in his life as well as challenging. It’s because he often spends his time drawing non-human characters.
“I’m more interested in drawing creatures (non-humans) rather than humans. Challenges surely come, because KDA characters are already famous and I don’t want to make fans disappointed so the pressure is higher,” said Budi.
“Giant canvas also became a challenge because we are forced to give a high detail in such limited time, added with so much feedback,” said Budi.

To be able to collaborate with Riot Games surely is not easy, but Budi manages to prove it by creating K/DA ALL OUT Evelynn KeyArt that successfully steals the fans’ heart of League of Legends and Wild Rift. For him, the key is not only to make a cool illustration for the eyes but also gives good storytelling and always work all-out.
“If you want to become a good splash artist in Riot Games or anywhere else, always hone the fundamentals, because that’s the important key. Aside from making super-detailed and cool artworks, good storytelling is also inserted in every masterpiece created,” said Budi.
On top of that, Budi also shared his tips to readers who want to follow his journey to becoming an illustrator, by focusing on a certain field first.
“Better to focus on a certain field first, either it’s concept art, environment artist, creature artist, character artist, and so much more. After you master it, then you can move to another,” he added.
