After we don't write about villages in Naruto series, now the writer will take you to look and take you on a trip to Iwagakure Village (Village Hidden in Rocks); the place where masters of Earth Elements and Tsuchikage (Earth Shadow) lives! Without further ado, let’s get to it!
Iwagakure is a hidden ninja village surrounded by tall mountains; making those as natural walls that hard to be penetrated and proud by the citizens.
Kirigakure was founded by The First Tsuchikage, Ishikawa, following the Warring States following the path that took by those Senju and Uchiha clan whom together found Konohagakure as well as ending the war. In the Five Kage Summit in history, Hashirama Senju as the First Hokage later sold Son Goku the Four Tailed Beast and Kokuo the Five Tailed Beast to Tsuchikage as a sign of friendship and power balancer between all Five Major Ninja Villages.

Iwagakure’s Foreign Relationship With Other Villages
Iwagakure and Konohagakure
- Even though Hashirama and Tobirama Senju already sold Bijuu (Tail beasts) as a tool to distribute power between villages, Madara Uchiha still act single-handedly to attack The Second Tsuchikage Mu with his pupil, Onoki, and forcing Iwagakure to subservient to Konoha;
- During the Second Shinobi World War: Iwagakure faced with Konoha and Suna at Amegakure territory;
- During the Third Shinobi World War: Iwa faced Konoha at Kusagakure territory. The destruction of the Kannabi Bridge made Konoha successfully destroyed the Iwa’s supply route and forcing the Third Tsuchikage Onoki to surrender;
- In Boruto era: The Third Tsuchikage Onoki secretly develop a synthetic army called Akuta and forcing one of Konoha Genin Mitsuki to betray.
Iwagakure and Sunagakure
- Land of Earth and Land of Wind are close in proximity, making these villages having a conflict with each other for years.
Iwagakure and Kirigakure
- The Second Tsuchikage Mu and The Second Mizukage Gengetsu Hozuki had a deep rivalry until both killed each other on their last battle;
- Yosuga Cliff Tragedy: When facing Kumogakure, Iwa soldier who cooperate with Kiri instead betraying their comrades;
- Iwa troops once attacked Konoha after the Destruction of Konoha (due to Oto and Suna attack) but defeated by Kosuke Maruboshi.
Iwagakure Ninjas’ Appearance and Stubbornness
For their uniform, Iwa’s shinobis usually wear a long-sleeved red uniform (either covers both arms or just one), a brown jacket, protector nets on legs, and a headband that covers the entire head.
Aside from known for their mastery of using Earth Releases, Explosion Element kekkei genkai, and Dust Element kekkei tota proficiently, they also often watched out because of their stubbornness -- they will obey Tsuchikage’s order without question, even though leads to their deaths. Additionally, Iwa ninjas also known for their cunning, hiring mercenaries like Akatsuki when forced to do dirty deeds that officially can’t be done.
In Boruto, some of their behaviors are still the same even though relationships between villagers in this era are getting better and more open. After being attacked by a handful of nukenins (rogue ninjas) and losing young, talented shinobis as a result, in desperation, the Third Tsuchikage Oniki decided to develop synthetic armies called Akuta as a replacement for ninjas and to prevent more bloodshed.
Iwagakure Village Scenery
During Naruto Shippuden, Iwagakure was not much explored. Luckily in Boruto series, it manages to show more scenery of this village, such as:
1. Iwagakure Front Gate
Iwagakure is seen in a stone mountain shaped like a dome with a hole atop, tall buildings’ roofs scorched from it. Before entering the village, travelers must pass a passage sandwiched with stone hills and passing a gray small gate.
After passing the gate, travelers will be greeted with a lot of kiosks where merchants offered their goods as well as solid brown cylindrical buildings connected with stone bridges.
2. Tsuchikage’s Office
The office as well as the house for Tsuchikage is the tallest building at the heart of the town with a cone-shaped roof and decorated with an ‘Earth’ kanji. Aside from office room for the Fourth Tsuchikage Kurotsuchi, there is also a wide garden where the sun can shine clearly without a single hill.
3. Iwa Council’s Meeting Room
Iwa Council is a group of Iwagakure elders and the most prominent figure in the village. To create finale decisions, they often hold a meeting here, including to talk about peace terms with Konoha during the Third Shinobi World War and their participation in Joined Chuunin Exam.
4. Stone Monument
Iwagakure has a small monument; where at the center, there is a decoration with a stone atop that surrounded by small rocks in a pool. But the stone on the center does not have a bigger size compared to the rocks in the pool -- describing the villagers’ philosophy: everyone has the same degree, but what difference is their will and spirits so they can stand atop of the others.
5. Sanzu Plains
This is empty plains filled with rocks that serve as training grounds for young Iwa shinobis and protected by a seal that makes everyone cannot use jutsu and get out of the field as they wish. Everyone who enters it is allowed to exit passing the seal after find out a special stone called ‘heart stone’.
