PlayStation 1 or PS1 is the gaming console with the most games. Since its release in 1994, it was recorded that this console from Sony has 3070 game titles. But from that amazing number, gamers only remember a few titles, such as Harvest Moon, Final Fantasy VII, Tekken, and so on. Out of the thousands of game titles, there are some that are underrated and quite unknown. What are they? See the list below to find out.

1. Ehrgeiz

Ehrgeiz is a fighting game developed by Square Soft and released for PS1. The game combines the gameplay of Tekken and Powerstone and presents the characters from the Final Fantasy franchise such as Cloud and Sephiroth. The game came with fully 3D graphics that were dynamic.

Despite using the Final Fantasy VII franchise, the game wasn’t as popular as Tekken or Street Fighter and failed to compete with them.

2. Klonoa

Klonoa is a 2.5D platformer game that was not too famous. For platformer game fans, Klonoa was one of the best platformer games on PS1. The game had colorful visuals and was very fun to play. Despite the advantages it had, the gameplay of Klonoa is too short for a platformer game.

3. Legend of Legaia

Legend of Legaia was one of the best JRPG games ever released for PS1. As a PS1 exclusive, the game was underestimated when it was released. But for RPG game fans, Legend of Legaia was the perfect RPG game, from the gameplay, storyline, and mechanism.

4. Um Jammer Lammy

Um Jammer Lammy may sound unfamiliar for gamers, but this game was the sequel to Parappa the Rapper that was more famous. This game used the same formula as the former game but was more centered on guitar and rap. Similar to Parappa, Lamma had to play multiple songs with her teacher by pressing the buttons.

5. Bushido Blade

Bushido Blade was a fighting game developed by Light Weight and published by Square for PS1. In the game, the player will play a one versus one battle using the iconic Japanese weapon. The title is a reference to the Japanese warrior code, bushido. Sadly, the game was not popular because of the things it lacks. The second game also received the same response.

6. Die Hard Trilogy

The popularity of Die Hard starring Bruce Willis didn’t translate to the game’s success. Die Hard Trilogy was a game containing three different games. The first Die Hard game was a third-person action-shooter game, Die Hard 2: Die Harder had similar gameplay to Virtua Cop, and Die Hard with a Vengeance was a game similar to Driver.

Both games were not popular because gamers consider them as a clone of other games with few changes. Not to mention the game only relies on the popularity of the Die Hard franchise that was very popular at that time.

7. Vib Ribbon

Vib-Ribbon was a unique game both from the gameplay and visual aspect. From the screenshot, you can tell that the game consists of a black background and white vector line.

Despite being a unique game, the game was never released in North America. The game was only available in Japan and Europe. So not many know about Vib Ribbon.

8. Future Cop LAPD

Controlling a weaponized advanced robot is surely fun. This is the concept of Future Cop LAPD that was developed by Visceral Games. In the game, the player will control a transformative robot belonging to the Los Angeles Police Department used to erase crimes in the city. Although it looks promising, the game didn’t get enough hype. Because at that time, there are more games more fun than Future Cop LAPD.

9. Parasite Eve 2

Parasite Eve 2 was not as popular as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. But the game released by Square Soft was just as awesome as those games. The game is an alternative survival horror game that gamers had to play in PS1. The game combines the horror element like Resident Evil with RPG elements which made the game unique.

10. Vagrant Story

Vagrant Story was a JRPG game connected to Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics. The three games were set in a world named Ivalice. The time period and era were the main differences between the three games, Final Fantasy XII was set thousands of years before Final Fantasy Tactics, and thousands of years after that, the story of Vagrant Story began.

Vagrant Story had Turn-Based Battle gameplay that was unique. There was no excessive “Random Encounter” in this game, but the difficulty was quite challenging.

11. Alundra

Alundra will remind gamers of Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Because the game developed by Matrix Software had a camera perspective from above and the number of puzzles that the player had to solve. The difference was that the character of Alundra can jump and Link can’t.

12. Disruptor

Far before developing Ratchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon, Insomniac Games developed a first-person (FPS) game titled Disruptor. The game was released to PS1 in 1996 and sadly the game wasn’t too popular.

13. The Misadventures of Tron Bonne

The Misadventures of Tron Bonne was an action-adventure game set in the same location as Megaman Legends. The game was a prequel to Megaman Legends and allows the player to play as Tron Bonne, a member of the Sky Pirate and an anti-hero in Megaman Legends. Sadly, the game wasn’t too popular in PS1 until Capcom decided to rerelease the game for PS4 as a PSOne Classic.

14. No One Can Stop Mr. Domino

No One Can Stop Mr. Domino was a game developed by Artdink and published under Acclaim Entertainment. In the game, the player will control Mr. Domino who ran nonstop through obstacles. The goal is simple, help Mr. Domino passes every obstacle, finish all of the dominoes, and get the highest score.

15. R-Type Delta

There were many scrolling shooter games released on PS1. But not every game from this genre was popular, like R-Type Delta that was developed by Irem. This game was similar to Gradius Gaiden from Konami but with better graphics. Sadly, that didn’t make the game more popular than the Gaiden series

That’s the list of underrated and less popular PS1 games. Even though these games were just as exciting. Stay tuned for more information about games and don’t forget to follow Dunia Games on Facebook and Instagram
