Similar to a movie, anime is a masterpiece that consists of several people’s work. Unfortunately, unlike Holywood movies, there are still few people who knew the directors, animators, music composers, and anime studios that responsible for their favorite animes.

If you take a closer look, few anime studios have their styles. Few have chosen or interested to publish a certain genre or theme, while others are taking over all genres and themes under one production house.

In this list, we are trying to compare each studio to decide the best studio in Japan. Here we go!

5. A-1 Picture

Studio A-1 Picture is a famous name among anime fan communities. This studio is famous for its outstanding productivity to release a new anime. In one season, this studio can release 4 anime titles. Every series from A-1 Picture has its animation style that is soothing to your eyes as well as killer opening soundtrack.

Unfortunately, this studio is also known for producing few animes that adapted from a manga that was not successful enough. This is because A-1 Picture often rushes their work to produce anime adaptation to chase the chapter in the manga. Even though when they are working on non-adaptation ones like Darling in the FranXX and Anohana, this studio can create a masterpiece.

A-1 Picture got skyrocketed after producing Sword Art Online. Also, A-1 Picture taking on shonen fantasy genre like The Seven Deadly Sins and Fairy Tail. This studio also producing unique titles like Your Line In April, Persona 5 The Animation, Black Butler, and Erased.

4. Ufotable

If you think beautiful graphics and animation style from an anime is the important things from an anime, Ufotable is a studio for you. With so many special effects, beautiful colors, and manually, hand-drawn characters on each work, many people thought that this studio has an unlimited budget. This assumption is later proved to be false because the main source behind this is their talented animators. 

Ufotable has distinct style on their animation style and also using bright colors. This can be seen from these series; Kara no Kyoukai, Fate series, and Touken Ranbu. In genre department, this studio is taking fantasy theme like God Eater and Tales of Zestiria.

Actually from the animation quality is not much to be complained about from this studio. Unfortunately with the high details and high animation making Ufotable can only make one anime in one year. This number is so low compared to other studios.

3. Trigger

Animators who working under Trigger Studio are an alumnus from Gainax studio, a studio that brings you Gurren Lagann, FLCL, and the most famous one is Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Like Gainax, Trigger often creating anime with hidden messages and unexpected storyline. This is proven from one of their masterpieces; Kill la Kill.

But Trigger’s works are not always deep and dark. On Little Witch Academia and Space Patrol Luluco, Trigger is proving their flexibility to create an entertaining anime with kawaii characters.

In the past two years, Trigger is not so productive to publish a new anime and decided to collaborate with other studios to create an anime like SSSS.Gridman dan juga Darling in the FranXX. (with A-1 Picture).

2. White Fox

When White Fox released a new anime, there’s a high chance that their anime will receive positive reviews. This studio is always pulling their best effort into creating animes. Without aiming at a certain genre, this studio manages to create a new, popular masterpiece.

Jorgmungand, Akame ga Kill and The Devil is a Part-Timer are few among other masterpieces from this studio, it’s impossible to not mention Steins: Gate series as well as Re: Zero, in which two received positive reviews. 

It’s not impossible if soon White Fox will be the best anime studio.

1.Madhouse

Established in 1972, Madhouse has many masterpieces that favored by critics and anime fans alike. Works like Death Note, Cardcaptor Sakura, Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, Hunter x Hunter, Kaiji and Death Parade are few popular works among others from Madhouse.

Although this studio popular with the heavy psychological genre, this studio is taking every genre with works such as Ore Monogatari, No Game No Life and A Place Further Than The Universe that is very easy to understand plotline but also tearjerking for audiences.

Not only in Japan, but Madhose’s works also inspired many people from over the world. This thing is shown from Perfect Blue and Paprika that become the main inspiration for Holywood movies like Black Swan and Inception.
