Appearing on the stage of D23 Expo on Saturday (24/5) local time, the President of Marvel Studio, Kevin Feige announced that the actor played Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones (GoT) series, Kit Harington will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In the MCU, Kit will play Dane Whitman or what the fans known as the Black Knight. The Black Night is planned to join The Eternals that will air at the end of next year.

The appearance of the Black Knight character is a good news for the fans of the comic books and the MCU. After the news has been teased for the past years that this swordsman superhero will appear in the MCU.

In the comic, Dane Whitman is the third person who used The Black Night’s cape. This character has appeared in Marvel since 1967 in The Avengers volume 47 comic book.

Dane's character is the nephew of a super villain who was defeated by Iron Man. The uncle passed down his power to Dane through a sword called The Ebony Blade. This sword is a legacy inherited in the Whitman family.

Taking the sword and the power of his uncle, Dane struggled to restore the honor of his family which is damaged by his uncle's behavior.

At first, the Black Knight appeared more often in The Avengers comics before finally getting a solo comic titled Knight in 1999. Besides that, Black Knight also got several one-shot comics

The new Black Knight character is highlighed in 2015 when Marvel Comic made a reboot of some of their superhero characters known as "All-New, All-Different Marvel" (ANADM).

Being one of the characters who were rebooted, Black Knight is the first comic to be launched in the ANADM universe. Unfortunately this series was stopped when it’s only released 5 volumes.

It is still unknown how the Black Knight will fit into the storyline and timeline of the MCU and The Eternals. Marvel Studio itself is famous for changing the story of their characters in the comics so that they can be included in the MCU.

Kit Harington is not the only GoT former cast who will appear in The Eternals. The actor, Robb Stark (Jon Snow's adopted brother in Got), Richard Madden is also casted as Ikaris in the Eternals.

Besides Kit and Richard, The Eternals will also joined by many other great actors. Previous names that have been announced include Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan and, the first Korean actor to be involved in the MCU, Ma Dong-Seok will certainly appear in The Eternals.

In the universe of Marvel comics, the Eternals is the result of the experiments of aliens and ancient humans millions of years ago. Despite having the shape of a human, Eternals have superhuman abilities such as the ability to fly, teleport, change their shape and so on.

The Eternals live on Earth and are tasked to protect the world from threats. Because of their strength, many ancient Greek, Roman and Scandinavian stories were influenced by The Eternals.

There are several Eternals characters that appear in the Marvel Comic universe. But in the film “The Eternals” will only focus on Ikaris and also Sersi who will be played by actress Gemma Chan.

In the comic, Sersi is the partner of Dana Whitman. Does this mean that Kit Harington will get an important role in The Eternals?
