If you remember the JRPGs back in PS1, you will definitely remember many epic games that existed at that time. RPG fans could enjoy games that were mostly story-focused at that time. In this article, Dunia Games wants to talk about the best PS1 JRPGs with the best storyline!

1. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete was released for the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1995. The Eternal Blue is set 1000 years after the Silver Star Story with the theme of friendship, love, and adventure to save the world.

The interactions that occur in each character are quite emotional. Interestingly, even NPCs have their own interesting tales. This makes the world in Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete look more alive than most RPGs.

2. Kartia: The World of Fate

Kartia: The World of Fate is a tactical RPG game developed by Atlus. This JRPG with gameplay that resembles Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre is also one of the best storylines on PS1.

Players will be given the option to play one of the two characters. First is Toxa, a young warrior who is still a rookie, and also Lacryrma, a strong warrior who is also the daughter of a legendary hero. Their story is very interesting to follow.

3. Vandal Hearts II

Vandal Hearts II is a JRPG by Konami that focuses more on the story than most other tactical JRPGs. Although the world in this game presents fantasy magic and legendary weapons or something, this game has a pretty dark story and a lot of moral messages for players.

4. Valkyrie Profile

When Valkyrie Profile was released in 1998, it became one of the most interesting JRPGs at the time. Unlike the fictional stories that exist in several JRPGs such as Final Fantasy or Star Ocean, this game is adapted from Norse mythology.

The main character, Lenneth, a Valkyrie, is assigned by the king of Aesir, Odin, to collect the souls of warriors to fight against the demon Vanir in the holy war. Interestingly, there are 3 endings that players can obtain in this game depending on the path they take.

5. Lunar Silver Star Story Complete

Lunar Silver Star was developed by Game Arts and released in 1992 on Sega CD which was later remastered and re-developed in 1998. The game was translated and published by Working Designs.

The Lunar series has an interesting but entertaining story so that players will not get bored exploring the game. The antagonists in this game also have an interesting story as well.

6. Final Fantasy Tactics

Final Fantasy Tactics gets a remastered version game of the same name with subtitles, dialogue, and voice acting developed on the PSP console and iOS devices. Even without getting a remaster, this game is still one of the JRPGs with the best storyline on PS1.

This game contains politics, betrayal, and a story inspired by War of the Roses. Many Final Fantasy fans also think that Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best Final Fantasy series.

7. Arc the Lad Collection

The Arc the Lad series is one of the tactical JRPGs that was popular in 1995 and it was re-released in 2002 as a 4 in 1 game. This collection contains the first trilogy and Arc Arena: Monster Tournament by Working Designs. Players can play this game for up to 100 hours with well-developed characters.

8. Xenogears

For fans of mecha anime like Gundam, Xenogears is the JRPG for you. It has many epic battles with giant robots. There is no such thing as a side quest in this game so players are forced to keep moving along with the storyline.

Since the anime cutscene at the beginning of the story, players will be hooked by a story full of plot twists. The story in this game is very complex because it relates religion, science, philosophy, and occult things. More interesting things can be found on the 2nd disc.

9. Final Fantasy VII

The popularity of Final Fantasy VII is unquestionable. This RPG by Square (now Square Enix), which was released in 1997, has never been forgotten by RPG lovers, even to this day. This story of Cloud Strife and friends even got a remake version released for PS4 and PS5.

This game also presents an interesting storyline. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to FFVII that revolves around Zack Fair who also has an important role in this series. FFVII is one of the most popular JRPGs in history.

10. Suikoden 2

Suikoden 2 is one of the best JRPGs in history that players will never forget. The story shown in this game is a top-notch storyline that ever existed in video game history. The most interesting thing about Suikoden 2 is that players can recruit up to 108 characters as part of their team. Until then, the Suikoden series will never be forgotten among JRPG lovers.
