For many fans, the idea of Tekken 8 coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 is something highly anticipated. The thought of playing a fast-paced, visually stunning fighting game on the go is undeniably exciting.

This hope grew stronger when Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada discussed the possibility of bringing Tekken 8 to the Switch 2 during an interview at Evo 2025.

Harada’s Perspective

Harada admitted that bringing Tekken 8 to the Switch 2 is indeed an interesting idea. From a business standpoint, it makes sense, since the Switch 2 has proven to be a massive success and attracts a wide audience.

However, he also emphasized that such a move would be extremely challenging. It would require significant resourcesand a long development cycle to make Tekken 8 run properly on the platform.

The Challenges of Porting Tekken 8

Tekken producer Michael Murray shed more light on the technical hurdles. According to him, if Tekken 8 were to run smoothly on the Switch 2, the development team would need to:

  • Rebuild or rework certain visual assets

  • Optimize performance for stable gameplay

  • Balance framerate without sacrificing too much graphic quality

All of this would require both time and substantial financial investment, making the project far from simple.

Learning from Street Fighter 6

A similar case can be seen with Street Fighter 6, which managed to make its way onto the Switch 2. While it proved that heavy fighting games can indeed be ported, the process took time and compromises to ensure both framerate and visuals remained at an acceptable level.

Bandai Namco’s Current Position

Given these challenges, Bandai Namco has yet to provide a definitive answer. This means there is still hope, but no confirmation as to when — or if — Tekken 8 will actually arrive on the Switch 2.

For now, fans can only wait while imagining how fun it would be to play iconic characters like Jin, Kazuya, or Paulon the Switch 2’s portable screen while traveling.

Conclusion

While the possibility of Tekken 8 on Nintendo Switch 2 remains open, the technical and financial hurdles make it a long and uncertain journey. For fans, it’s a mix of excitement and anticipation — proof that the gaming industry continues to explore ways to expand experiences across multiple platforms.
