A new game development studio company from Indonesia, Moddest Game Studio, aspires to elevate these Indonesian legends so that they can be introduced to the international scene, through a game currently being developed entitled Kelana: Legend of the East.

Seto Hendrianto, Founder and Game Designer of Moddest Game Studio, said that Kelana was inspired by the history and legends of the Archipelago such as the stories of Babad Tanah Jawi, Sriwijaya, Tutur Tinular, Saur Sepuh, Joko Tingkir, and so on. "Through the game that we are currently developing, we want to revive the legendary stories that exist in society and introduce them to international audiences. The world in the Kelana game will also be built based on real places in Indonesia, starting from Java, Sumatra, Flores, to Puncak Jaya Papua. In this way, it also helps promote tourist destinations in the country.”

Kelana is a game with the third-person action RPG genre, where players can experience the journey of the main character in going through various adventures and developing their abilities according to each person's playing style. Silat was also chosen as the main fighting style in this game because it is an original Indonesian culture, colored by various local mythological characters that the main character will meet during his journey.

Kelana is set in the early days of Majapahit, Samudera Pasai, Padjajaran, and the Bali Kingdom, during the turmoil of new kingdoms that were full of chaos. This game tells the story of the journey of Raden Arsa, a noble child from a small kingdom called Mandarakusuma, whose house was invaded by unknown troops who killed almost everyone in his house. Arsa, who was still a child at that time, was unconscious and suddenly woke up with a sword in his hand while stabbing the leader of the troops to death.

While the chaos was happening, a traveler named Tun Syah Dira happened to be passing by and saw a house that was on fire and in ruins. When he entered the house, Arsa was seen in a trance and covered in blood, surrounded by the bodies of soldiers. Arsa turned to Tun Syah Dira with a blank stare and immediately attacked him.

Arsa's fighting movements resemble the mythological bird Jatayu, which later Arsa will study with Tun Syah Dira to learn about wisdom, knowledge, and supernatural powers to reveal the true form of the Jatayu bird that is said to reside within him. However, to ensure Arsa's safety, Tun Syah Dira gave him a new name, Kelana.

By emphasizing cultural elements and iconic locations in Indonesia, Kelana has succeeded in getting the attention of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, which has shown its interest in supporting the development of this game in the future.
