Last Monday (21/10), Indonesian Twitter users are laughing after seeing a picture of esports tournament banner held by the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. Instead of holding a tournament for the trending games like CoD Mobile or PUBG Mobile, the Ministry of Finance chooses to hold esports tournaments for Zuma and Onet.

Both Zuma and Onet is a game far from the term esports that we have known. The post becomes hilarious after knowing the fact that both games have a negative connotation since PNS often plays those games to fill their free time.

A picture uploaded by a twitter user @_Rezka is flooded by the comments on Indonesian netizen from twitter. Most of them have a hilarious response to this “esports tournament.”

Of course the one that held this tournament is the government. They will obviously win. Since they play the game every day.” @frsp_ wrote.

“*during the CPNS monitoring*

👨What is your expertise, Onet, or Zuma?

👩Candy Crush, sir!

👨you have a great skill, but sorry it’s not useful for the institute” @ginank11 responds with a meme

Whose idea is it? How do they think about this. It’s cool that they made it an e-sports, instead of procrastinating material,” @riraen responds.

When this article is written, the tweet that’s not even 24 hours has 2.700 retweets and 2.100 likes. But the story behind the tweet and pictures are not as simple as Netizens thought.

After contacting the person that uploaded the picture, @_Rezka, via Twitter’s DM, the person explains what actually happens. “I want to clarify that there are no competitions for Zuma and Onet. Those games are often associated with PNS,” @_Rezka explained.

@_Rezka also added that the banner is used to spice up the 73rd Oeang Day Celebration held by the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta. During the celebration, most of the Ministry of Finance’s employees held various internal competitions. One of them is esports competitions.

Zuma and Onet obviously not the games for the tournament. From the official page of Hari Oeang Republik Indonesia, the Ministry of Finance’s employees in Jakarta held a competition for eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer dan juga Mobile Legend Bang-Bang.

To prevent misunderstandings, @_Rezka posted follow-up information about the esports tournament held by the Ministry of Finance. Unfortunately, the follow-up tweet doesn’t receive the same amount of response compared to the tweet about Zuma and Onet esports tournament.

“Hopefully, next year, we are given the permission to held (Zuma and Onet tournaments),” @_Rezka tweeted.

FYI, Hari Oeang Indonesia is a celebratory day to commemorate the first printing of Indonesian currency on October 30th, 1946. To commemorate the day, every year, the Ministry of Finance held various events and competitions.

Aside from esports, the Ministry of Finance’s employees also held soccer, basketball, chess, and photography and video blog competition. The documentation from the events of Hari Oeang Indonesia can be accessed in hori73.id.
