Besides Konohagakure, there are 4 villages that make the ‘Five Great Shinobi Countries’ in Naruto universe; one of them is Kumogakure. As one of the great villages, Kumogakure is not just a village founded after the Warring States period, the village is also well respected in the shinobi world.

Let’s find out more about Kumogakure, the hidden ninja village in the Land of Lightning!

1. Kumogakure

Kumogakure is the hidden shinobi village in the Land of Lightning. Founded by A, the First Raikage post the Warring States Period, Kumogakure is located in the mountains and literally hidden by clouds. There are five known leaders or Raikages that lead the village.

Because of the terrain and location, the majority of shinobi from Kumogakure masters Lightning Release; and a small part of them learn a unique technique such as Black Lightning or kekkei genkai Storm.

2. The History of Kumogakure

Initially, Kumogakure maintains a good relationship with Konohagakure. Not too long after Kumogakure was established, Hasirama Senju, the First Hokage, sold two Tailed Beasts to the village.

Then during the Raikage and Second Hokage era, both nations tried to started a peace treaty but interrupted by Kin and Gin, who almost killed Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage.

During the First Shinobi World War, Konoha and Kumogakure ended up on the opposing side and the Kinkaku Force from Kumo killed the Second Hokage.

Both villages got into conflict again during the Third Shinobi World War, where Minato Namikaze, the future Fourth Hokage, facing A, the Future Fourth Raikage after the death of the Third Raikage (A’s father) after holding 10.000 shinobis for three days straight nonstop.

3. The Strict Military Condition of Kumogakure

Unlike other villages, Kumogakure is a military village and will always look for the best way to strengthen their military forces. When most villages cut their number of army and make a peace treaty, Kumogakure often breaks the treaty behind their back in order to gain an advantage in case another war breaks out.

The three main strategies of Kumogakure to amass power are: stealing the secrets of other villages, kidnapping powerful ninjas from other villages, and collecting Tailed Beasts.

Years before the Third Shinobi World War, they attempted to kidnap Kushina Uzumaki to learn about her special chakra but failed because of Minato.

After the Third Shinobi World War, Kumogakure sent their Head Ninja to Konohagakure to sign the peace treaty, to cover up their attempt to steal the Byakugan of the Hyuuga Clan. the incident is later known as Hyuuga Affair.

Years after the incident they made another attempt to steal byakugan when Otogakure attacked Konoha, but failed yet again.

Before the First Hokage offered them two Tailed Beasts, they ordered Kinkaku and Ginkaku to seal the Nine-Tailed Beast using the Five Treasured Tools of the Sage of Six paths but they ultimately failed.

After obtaining the Two-Tailed and Eight-Tailed Beast, they are often called for failing to control the beasts, especially the Eight-Tailed Beast that often when on a rampage when the Jinchuuriki failed to contain the beast.

But thanks to that failure, Kumogakure is often considered as the village with the best method of controlling the Tailed Beast, where they made a temple to control the chakra of a sealed Tailed Beast.

4. Fourth Shinobi World War and Kumogakure in Boruto Era

Kumogakure’s nature made it hard for other villages to trust them, the threat of the Fourth Shinobi World War from Akatsuki made the Cloud Village becomes one of the villages that states their concern over the evil plan and immediately joined the Shinobi Alliance.

Their military force is the reason with the Fourth Raikage appointed as the highest War General and the village is chosen to be the military base for the allied force.

That’s also why the village is greatly affected by the Fourth Shinobi World War -- to neutralize the threat from the Shinobi Alliance, the Ten-Tailed Beast fired Bijuudama to Kimogakure, killing the soldiers, citizens, and most of the village.

After the war, Kumogakure and other villages started to strengthen their relation retain peace. But their ‘military expansion’ never stops.

When Toneri Otsutuski threatens to drop the moon to earth, Kumogakure revealed a giant chakra cannon to destroy the moon and shock other Kages.
