Martinus H. Manurung, Head of Business & Marketing at Moonton Indonesia expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, emphasizing its significance for MPL Indonesia. He stated, "The collaboration between esports and traditional sports is crucial for us, as we aim to expand the reach of esports through such partnerships."
Martinus highlighted that this collaboration presents a unique opportunity to engage new audiences, aiming to introduce the NBA and basketball to the growing esports fanbase in Indonesia. With impressive milestones like surpassing 3 million views during the Grand Final of MPL ID S14 and achieving over 350 million live views in a single season, he is optimistic that the MPL ID x NBA partnership will elevate MPL's presence in the esports landscape and contribute to the growth of the esports industry in Indonesia.
"Esports has become a mainstream phenomenon, both in Indonesia and globally, with a vast following. This collaboration allows us to connect with new audiences," he added. "We also aim to introduce the NBA and basketball to the rapidly expanding esports community in Indonesia, as evidenced by last season's peak viewership of over 3 million during our Grand Final and more than 350 million live views throughout the season." He concluded by stating their shared goal of fostering development for the youth in Indonesia and positioning MPL Indonesia as a leader in esports and innovation within the industry.
Antoine Nazaret, representing NBA Asia in Digital Marketing, expressed that the collaboration between MPL ID and NBA marks the start of a promising long-term partnership. He highlighted NBA Asia's goal of broadening its fan base to spark interest in the NBA and connect fans more closely with the game.
"This is just the beginning of a long-term collaboration that we hope will flourish. Our main focus in the basketball league is to create and grow our fan base, generating new interest in the NBA and bringing fans closer to the sport," Antoine shared. He also mentioned the importance of providing an exceptional experience for current fans. Antoine further elaborated on the exciting collaborative potential with MPL Indonesia, aiming to inspire fans to embrace basketball and the NBA.
He has even tried playing MLBB and appreciates the passion and excitement of MPL Indonesia's fans. "We see numerous fantastic collaboration opportunities with partners in this thriving ecosystem. For us, it’s not just about hitting target numbers, but about finding ways to inspire someone to become a fan of basketball and the NBA as a whole," Antoine noted. He humorously admitted, "I’ve tried playing (MLBB) and I’m not very good at it, so I need to practice. I’m not a great basketball player either, but I was truly impressed by the skills of the players and the enthusiasm of the fans at the MPL Arena."
Junas Miradiarsyah, the President Director of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL), expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between MPL ID and the NBA.
