Gold Plated Nintendo Wii for Queen Elizabeth II Auctioned
The Gold Plated Nintendo Wii that was originally made for Queen Elizabeth II has finally gone up for auction for a fantastic price.

Nintendo Wii is one of the consoles released by Nintendo during the heyday of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This console is the smallest console among other consoles currently available. But not being the smallest console, Nintendo Wii also comes with various versions, one of the interesting ones is the gold plated version.
Recently a rare Nintendo Wii console that is plated in 24 carat gold will soon be released for auction. In fact, previously the unique console was planned to be given to the Queen of England Elizabeth II.
Citing Endgadget, the Nintendo console will be auctioned off by a Dutch collector and owner of the Consolevariations site named Don. In 2009, the gold-plated Nintendo Wii was originally announced to be given to Queen Elizabeth II, by now-bankrupt game developer THQ.
This was done with the aim of being part of the promo for the forgotten mini-game collection, namely Big Family Games.
"The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country, so we felt they should have a copy of this new game," said Danielle Robinson, Product Manager at THQ at the time, citing auction site Goldin.
"But we thought Her Majesty The Queen would not want to play on any old consoles, so an extra-special gold one was awarded. We hope she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy the game!" said Robinson at the time.
However, the device never made it to Buckingham Palace due to its very strict gift policy. The Nintendo Wii finally returned to THQ and in 2017, until finally a collector got it from studio contacts. The owner, who has not been identified, sold it to Don.
When it was in Don's hands, the gold-plated Nintendo Wii console was briefly displayed on the eBay page in October 2021 with an asking price of USD 300 thousand (or around Rp. 4.3 billion). However, the marketplace closed the sale because there was a policy that marked the sale of goods at a price far from the market price. Finally, the auction was carried out on another platform called Goldin.
On the auction platform, it was explained that the gold-plated Nintendo Wii was described as including a console machine, one controller, Big Family Games exchange, sensor bar, and all the cables needed. In addition, the auction platform also issued an official letter to prove the authenticity and history of the console.
The Goldin auction platform plans to open an auction for this gold-plated Nintendo Wii on May 22, 2022. It is known that the console already has a bid price of USD 2,300 (or around Rp. 33 million), but that value is expected to continue to rise until the auction period is over.
