The artist who created Lycoris Recoil named Asaura, together with Gomeyuki Nishima, hit the manga world with their latest title, Double Helix Blossom, which was officially launched in Shogakukan's Weekly Coro Coro Comic magazine on Monday, January 15th 2024. Interesting characters in Double Helix Blossom are made by SWAV (Tsui no Stella).
Set in the future, the story of Double Helix Blossom begins with the awakening of Kiku Shinonome, a police officer who was previously placed in cryogenic static for 60 years to save her from fatal injuries.
When she wakes up in an unfamiliar world, Kiku is forced to partner with Kyo Tsukisagari, a criminal with a long criminal record but equipped with psychic powers. Even though their personalities are opposite, together they go on an adventure solving interesting paranormal incidents.
Not only a manga, Double Helix Blossom will also be adapted into a board game developed by Masato Uesugi and Noriaki Watanabe, the duo involved in the board game Kaiju on the Earth: Vulcanus. SWAV also participated in illustrating the game design.
Kaiju on the Earth: Vulcanus, which inspired the manga by Hiro Nakamichi (After School Dice Club), debuted on Shogakukan's Sunday Webry website on December 24th 2023.
The original anime Lycoris Recoil which premiered in July 2022, directed and written by Shingo Adachi, has gained popularity among viewers.
Crunchyroll is streaming this anime simultaneously with broadcasts in Japan, including the English dubbed version. Like Double Helix Blossom, Lycoris Recoil also highlights the cooperation between two opposite characters, in the future, with a focus on law enforcement beyond jurisdictional boundaries. In fact, a new animated project from this series is already in planning.
Asaura himself started the B action light novel series entitled Ben-To in 2008, and finished it with the 12th volume in 2014. This novel series became the basis for a 12 episode anime series which aired in 2011. Funimation broadcast this series in 2014, and released it on DVD and Blu-ray Disc the same year.
