Levon Aronian is an Armenian chess maestro who has become a living legend in the world of chess. Known for his creative playing style, unique strategies, and consistent achievements for over two decades, Aronian is a symbol of Armenia’s chess glory and a global icon in elite chess.
Born on October 6, 1982 in Yerevan, Armenia, Aronian began playing chess at the age of nine. He quickly rose to prominence by winning the World U-12 Chess Championship in 1994 and earned the title of Grandmaster in 2000.
Since the early 2000s, Aronian has consistently ranked among the world’s top players. His accolades include winning the 2005 World Cup, the Grand Slam Final, and prestigious tournaments such as Linares, Wijk aan Zee, and the Sinquefield Cup. At his peak, he reached World No. 2 on the FIDE rankings, just behind Magnus Carlsen.
One of Aronian’s greatest strengths is his creativity at the board. He is known for surprising opponents with unconventional yet highly effective tactical ideas and strategic plans. This style has made him a fan favorite, as his games are often dynamic, entertaining, and full of unexpected turns.

In 2021, Aronian made a major career move by transferring federations from Armenia to the United States in pursuit of greater professional opportunities. Although the decision sparked some controversy, it allowed him to remain active in elite tournaments and become an important member of the U.S. national team.
