Oversoul! Shaman King is an epic anime about the battles among spirits which came out in the early 2000s and garnered popularity among the anime community, and now it’s about to receive a remake this year. Produced by Jouji Furuta, Shaman King Remake will inject the audiences with nostalgia and action-packed stories among the shamans in their journey to harness the power of the spirits from the underworld.
Shaman King Remake is believed to be much cooler than the classic original Shaman King anime. Here are five facts about this nostalgia-inducing action anime series.
1. Adapted from Hiroyuki Takei’s Manga
Shaman King is originally a manga series created by author Hiroyuki Takei with 35 volumes that began on the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998. However, the manga ended abruptly in 2004 and finally received a proper ending from the author in 2009.
The manga originally had a rather anticlimactic ending where the villain triumphed over the protagonists. Perhaps due to protests from the fans, Shaman King manga received the revised ending in 2009.
2. First Shaman King Anime Aired in 2001-2002
Xebec studio released the original Shaman King anime from 2001 to 2002 with 64 episodes. A local TV station in Indonesia once aired the anime around 2003 but didn’t finish the story. Despite the shortcomings, local fans began to develop some fondness with the series.
The classic Shaman King anime is also memorable for its Indonesian-dubbed Opening and Ending themes. With Shaman King Remake on the way, Indonesian fans will be able to once again indulge themselves in the nostalgia with the series.
3. Shaman King Remake Adapts New Story from the Latest Manga
On June 12 2020, Shaman King Remake’s license holder Kodansha announced the anime would adapt a new story for the upcoming remake, derived from the story of the 35-volume manga that had been re-released on June 17 2020.
Fans hope that the Shaman King Remake is not going to adapt the manga’s early ending that disappointed them back then. Although, it doesn’t seem to go that way to begin with as supported by the mesmerizing visual effects and cooler character designs on the remake which ignite fans’ excitement toward the series all over again.
