Asian Kungfu Generation Band Group Facts

The name Asian Kungfu Generation was made by the vocalist, Masafumi Gotoh. When unemployed because he was not accepted into university exams, he intended to form a band. When he saw Bruce Lee's film, Gotoh got the idea to add the word "Kungfu" to the band he would form.

Gotoh also wanted his band's name to consist of three English words, like Thee Michelle Gun Elephant. The name Gooh was interesting. In the end, the name Asian Kungfu Generation was born, which became the band.

Initially, this band carried music that had influences from western punk and alternative rock. However, over time, Asian Kungfu Generation became an experimental band that sang various genres of songs. The band, which is often called Ajikan, also collaborated with a ska and jazz band, the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.

Most Asian Kungfu Generation songs always feature loud guitar rhythms with emotional lyrics. Not separated from the distinctive screams of the vocalist, Goto in several parts of the song. Ajikan has also become a role model for many indie bands in Japan.

In 2002, on the album Hokai Amplifier, Ajikan released the song Haruka Kanata which became the soundtrack for Naruto. This rocking song managed to steal the attention of many Naruto fans and became famous throughout the world. It can be said that this song made Ajikan's name known to the world.
