There’s a thing called dojutsu or ‘eye jutsu’ in the ninja world of Naruto. Generally, this eye jutsu is inherited within a family and is only owned by the people from certain clans, but ordinary people may also have it through eye transplantation.

There are 3 dojutsu that are considered as the most powerful, and one of them is Sharingan. Sharingan itself is a dojutsu that belongs to the Uchiha Clan and has 3 different types. Let’s take a look at the strength of each Sharingan types and their differences below.

Sharingan

Sharingan is a dojutsu belongs to the Uchiha Clan. Although its power originated from the Rinne Sharingan of Kaguya Otsutsuki, the independent form of Sharingan was first manifested by Indra Otsutsuki. Sharingan will only be activated when the wielder feels tremendous emotional pressure. Therefore, the Sharingan is often referred to as an ‘eye that reflects the heart’.

Having a Sharingan will give its owner two kinds of power: Eye of Insight and Eye of Hypnotism. Eye of Insight improves the eyesight and provides the ability to mimic movements while the Eye of Hypnotism can emit illusions and influence people’s minds.

Mangekyo Sharingan

An advanced version of Sharingan, Mangekyo Sharingan, will only be initially activated when the wielder is experiencing significant trauma. The Uchiha Clan assumed that Mangekyo Sharingan will only be awakened by trauma from witnessing the death of someone close to the user, which made them have a ‘habit’ of killing their closest friends in order to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Not only does it give the wielder Eye of Insight and Eye of Hypnotism, but Mangekyo Sharingan also grants different abilities for each user -- it can even be different for each eye. When an Uchiha successfully awakens the Mangekyo on both of their eyes (Double Mangekyo), they can use Susanoo.

A prolonged usage of Mangekyo Sharingan can make the users go blind, but their sight can be restored by transplanting the Mangekyo from another Uchiha member with strong blood ties (usually a sibling), which awakens the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan -- which is stronger and can be used continuously.

Mangekyo Sharingan Abilities

• Itachi: Awakened after seeing Shisui committed suicide.
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his left eye gives the power of great illusion, Tsukuyomi.
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his right eye creates mighty black flames, Amaterasu.
• Sasuke: Awakened after the death of Itachi.
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his left eye gives him Amaterasu.
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his right eye allows him to control his Amaterasu
• Obito: Awakened after witnessing the death of Rin in the hands of Kakashi.
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his left eye can move objects to Kamui dimension from a distance
  • Mangekyo Sharingan on his right eyes can move objects that he touches to Kamui dimension
• Madara: The first Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyo.
• Shisui: After allowing his friend and rival to die.
  • Both of his eyes can perform Kotoamatsukami genjutsu to manipulate someone’s mind without their knowledge.

Rinne Sharingan

Rinne Sharingan is the predecessor to the Rinnegan and Sharingan. The only users are Kaguya Otsutsuki and Madara Uchiha.

Rinne Sharingan dojutsu has the same abilities as the Sharingan, can be used to release the Infinite Tsukuyomi genjutsu, also allows Kaguya to move to another dimension with Amenominaka.
