Magic Chess Go Go is back in the spotlight after MOONTON Games announced two major breakthroughs: the launch of the GO1 World Championship and the game’s official debut at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). These milestones mark Magic Chess: Go Go (MCGG) as one of the fastest-growing mobile strategy titles in 2025.
Magic Chess Go Go Introduces the GO1 World Championship
The GO1 World Championship is the first-ever offline global tournament for MCGGG. The competition will culminate on January 25 at the M7 Carnival in Jakarta, held alongside the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M7 World Championship. The first GO1 champion will share the main stage with MLBB’s world champions, making this a prestigious opportunity for esports athletes from around the globe.
A total of 24 participants from regions including Asia, Europe, EECA, MENA, LATAM, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines will compete. Players can secure a slot through MCGG Rising Stars (MRS) Season 4, the in-game competitive mode.
In the previous season, Sergio “SkAnDominc” Pablo Rojas Mamani from LATAM emerged as the MRS Season 3 champion. He said, “It’s hard to believe that I’m the champion, but here I am. I never expected that a game I play every day could take me this far.” His statement reflects how MCGG’s competitive system provides everyday players the chance to shine on the world stage.
The Grand Finals at M7 Carnival will also present a large themed festival called “MCGG Land,” featuring MLBB and MCGG watch parties, interactive zones, music, food, and various entertainment segments.
Magic Chess Go Go Makes SEA Games Debut
MCGG is also making history as the first mobile Auto Chess game to appear at the SEA Games. During the 33rd edition of the event in 2025, MCGG will be featured as a demonstration sport and is set to open the Games on December 12. Athletes from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines will go head-to-head in a strategy-based competition.
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystems at MOONTON Games, stated that MCGG’s inclusion in the SEA Games highlights the growing inclusivity of the competitive ecosystem. Meanwhile, Thailand Esports Federation President Santi Lothong emphasized that MCGG showcases how innovation can reshape the future of sports.
These achievements come after an exceptional year for MCGG. The game surpassed 30 million downloads within just two weeks of its global launch on May 28 and won the 2025 Google Play Best Game Award in five Southeast Asian countries.
The launch of MCGG Season 4 on November 19 also introduces the game’s first major collaboration with The King of Fighters (KOF) franchise. This crossover brings KOF-themed skins, new synergy effects, and arcade-inspired chessboard designs. A new retro-style mini game called Destined Duel will also be available, giving players the chance to earn exclusive rewards.
Gao “Skyhook” Chong, Producer of MCGG at MOONTON Games, said that the collaboration with KOF reflects the evolution of MCGG as a global IP. Season 4 also marks the return of MRS Season 4, the official qualification path to the GO1 World Championship.
