In a surprising turn of events, mod creator Dark Space was forced to take down one of his projects after receiving a copyright notice from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games. The project in question was a speculative version of the Grand Theft Auto 6 map, recreated within Grand Theft Auto 5. It was based on clues from trailers and various community leaks. The mod was initially available on his YouTube channel and quickly gained attention from fans eagerly awaiting the release of GTA 6.

However, things changed when Dark Space received an official takedown request. In response, he removed both the video and the download link for the mod to avoid further penalties, including the possible removal of his channel. In a follow-up statement, Dark Space speculated that the mod may have been too similar to the real GTA 6 map, which could be why it was targeted. He emphasized that his intention wasn’t to harm Rockstar, but rather to generate excitement among fans during the long wait for new official updates.

Dark Space didn’t stop there—he went on to criticize Take-Two's harsh approach toward the modding community. He pointed out that the company has a history of targeting fan-made content, even when such projects actually enhance the player experience. One example he cited was the problematic launch of the remastered GTA: The Trilogy, where community-made mods helped fix many of the game’s issues.

He also announced that he would no longer create content for GTA 5, as he didn't want to risk losing more time and effort over potential takedowns. He closed his video with a message directed at Rockstar and Take-Two, urging them to see content creators as allies rather than threats. “We are not the enemy,” he said. “You may own the games, but we buy and play them. When you've moved on, we're the ones who keep them alive.”

This situation has once again sparked debate about the fine line between intellectual property protection and the contributions of passionate fan communities. While fans simply want to feel more connected to the games they love, overly aggressive legal action may ultimately damage a company’s reputation instead.
