Marvel Studio has found a director that will helm Captain Marvel 2. Reporting from Screen Rant, they announced that this movie starring Brie Larson will be directed by Nia DaCosta who previously directed a horror movie Candyman.

The appointing of female directors to work on Captain Marvel 2 is an important thing for Marvel Studio because since the first movie hit theaters back in 2019, this first female lead superhero movie in Marvel Cinematic Universe was also helmed by a female director, Anna Boden.

The first Captain Marvel movie was a success commercially. The last solo superhero movie before Avengers: Endgame was a success with revenue for $1 billion from international screening.

Even though the current process still on choosing the movie’s director, the production of Captain Marvel 2 was already announced by Marvel Studio during the San Diego Comic-Con 2019. At the beginning of this year, Marvel Studio also announced that this movie to be released in 2022.

With DaCosta as the director, Marvel Studio already has a few directors to work on phase 4 movies. Aside from DaCosta, there are two other female directors in the studio. On top of that, an African-American director Ryan Coogler also appointed again to direct Black Panther 2.
