Many anime and manga fans thought that Attack on Titan was set in a post-apocalyptic world. The surviving humans are living within the walls to protect themselves from giant creatures called Titan. Eren believes that outside of the wall is a vast and peaceful place with no Titan.

As the story progress, Eren found out that they are living on an island called Paradis and that there’s a more advanced human civilization across the sea. 

The conflict between the two nations has been going for centuries with a long history. Today, Dunia Games will look into the conflict between Marley and Eldia from the past until the present.

1. Marley and Eldia’s Initial Conflict 

Marley was a big and powerful nation. But around 2000 years ago, they lost their glory because Eldians obtained Titan power. 

The leader of Eldia, King Fritz, married a slave named Ymir to obtain the power of Founding Titan. The king took advantage of Ymir’s ability to build facilities, increase the living standard, and invade other countries. Marley and other nations were oppressed and treated cruelly because they are considered to be inferior by Eldian.

After Ymir’s death, the Titan spirit split into nine and 9 Eldian nobility took over of each Titan power and call themselves as Subject of Ymir.

2. The Fall of Eldia

The Eldian starts to lose their glory thanks to the decision of Karl Fritz, the 145th Eldian King. he felt guilty for what his ancestor did to the Marleyans and other nations, King Karl Fritz decided to left power and live in a safe place, Paradis island.

The vacuum of power ignited a civil war between the Eldian. Marleyans took advantage of the situation to revel. The nation obtained seven of the nin Titan Shifter. Then the Kingdom of Eldian fell and Marley rose to power.

The only Eldian territory left is Paradis island. King Karl Fritz erected three walls made out of Colossal Titans. He also erased the memory of the Eldian, Subject of Ymir, about the dark past of Eldia. King Fritz also started a new kingdom and changes his name to King Reiss.

The Eldians in Paradis island live in peace, but the ones left on the main continent suffer under the reign of Marleyans and become marginalized. They are treated roughly and have to wear an armband and lives in slum areas.

3. Marley Eldia in Modern Era

Since the fall of Eldia, Marley is in a powerful position until the modern era. But thanks to the rapid development of weapons, the power of Titans is being matched. This worries Marley, so the nation decided to obtain the power of Founding Titan that was on Paradis Island.

Marley Periodically sent Titans to Paradis island. These Titans are Eldians who were considered criminals and punished by turning them into Titan. With this method, Marley also limits the movement of Eldians in Paradis to find out about the outside world.

Marleyans then launches aggressive attacks by sending 4 Titan Shifter: Armorer Titan owned by Reiner, Colossal Titan owned by Bertolt, Female Titan owned by Annie, and Jaw Titan owned by Marcel Galliard. Their mission is to become a spy and find the Founding Titan.

So, Marleyans are destroying the peaceful life of Eldians in Paradis island.

The mission to obtain the Coordinator and Founding Titan end up in failure. Founding Titan is currently possessed by Eren. Marley lost Colossal Titan ( in possession of Armin) and Female Titan (Annie enclosed in crystal).

On the other side, the Marleyans have to face other nations that start to become more aggressive as they lost two Titan Shifter. Although they won, Marley spent a lot of money and resource.

Paradis island houses rich natural resources and remains untouched. Knowing this information, Marley wanted the strength of the Coordinator and Founding Titan even more and was ready to invade Paradis island.

That’s the history and outline of the conflict between Eldia and Marley. Nearing the end of the story, the conflict between the two nations deepens and we will find out more about the unanswered plot of events.
