Mendadak Dangdut, the latest comedy-drama film directed by Monty Tiwa, is set to shake up Indonesian cinemas starting April 30, 2025. Synopsis of Mendadak Dangdut

The film follows the story of Naya (played by Anya Geraldine), a famous pop singer from Jakarta whose glamorous life takes a dark turn when she is accused of being involved in her assistant’s mysterious death. To escape the unproven allegations, Naya flees the city with her father, Anwar (Joshua Pandelaki), who suffers from memory loss, and her younger sister, Lola (Nurra Datau).

Their journey leads them to the northern coastal region (Pantura), where Naya accidentally joins a local dangdut music group formed by Wawan (Keanu Angelo) and Wendhoy (Fajar Nugra). As she struggles to survive under disguise, Naya finds herself immersed in a new world that forces her to step out of her comfort zone. Along the way, she discovers a whole new perspective on music and life—one she never expected to embrace.

During a press conference held at Plaza Senayan XXI on April 9, 2025, Monty explained that Mendadak Dangdut touches on themes such as cultural and generational differences, as well as contrasting musical tastes.

Executive producer David Setiawan Suwarto emphasized that the film is a celebration of dangdut as a proud symbol of Indonesian music. “This film is meant to be enjoyed by audiences from all walks of life,” he said.
