It was first released as International Superstar Soccer Deluxe for SNES, then released as Winning Eleven 97and ISS 98.
From the franchise, you may also know several names such as the referee named Kazuki Ito. the fictitious referee made Konami is notorious among Winning Eleven players. But, besides the referee, the commentator also has a crucial role in this football game.

The legendary commentator has been featured in the game since the Winning Eleven era until Pro Evolution Soccer. His career as a commentator starts from the first Winning Eleven that was released in 2001 until eFootball PES 2020.
Jon Kabira was born on 1 November 1958 in Naha - Okinawa, Japan. Jon Kabira is biracial, his mother comes from Kansa, the United States, and his father comes from Okinawa, Japan. Jon Kabira is fluent in both English and Japanese. Besides lending his voice for Winning Eleven, he is a radio host, presenter, and narrator.
