Roronoa Zoro is voiced by Kazuya Nakai, seiyuu who has been active for quite some time in the world of anime. His deep, bass voice must be familiar to your ears. On this occasion, the writer would like to give you a bit of info about Zoro’s seiyuu. Let’s just get straight into it!
Not only being a seiyuu for several anime, but Nakai also features in various movies, tokusatsu, and video games. So, chances are you probably have heard his voice from somewhere since he has been featured in numerous works.
Kazuya Nakai was born in Kobe, Japan, on November 25, 1967, and he’s now 52 years old. He won the Best Supporting Actor at the 5th Seiyuu Awards in 2011 for his roles in One Piece and Gintama. Many people have known him for his roles in both anime.
In One Piece, Nakai is the seiyuu of Roronoa Zoro, Monkey D. Luffy’s partner who accompanies him in his journey for One Piece and becoming the Pirate King. Zoro’s cool-guy voice must be already familiar in our ears. Aside from Zoro, guess what other anime characters voiced by Nakai?
Yup, Toshiro Hijikata from Gintama is also voiced by Kazuya Nakai. If you’ve heard his voice for the first time, you might be wondering where did you have heard that voice before. Nakai’s voice does suit perfectly for cool supporting characters like Zoro and Hijikata.
Besides those two, Nakai is also the seiyuu of Masamune Date in Sengoku Basara. Hic cool, deep voice does fit perfectly for the character who often yells, "Are you ready, guys?". If you take a look at the list of the characters he voices, most of them are Samurai. Perhaps it’s because his voice sounds deep and masculine.
Nakai has been a seiyuu since 1996, he made his debut in the anime, After War Gundam X, as Witz Sou. Not just in anime series, Nakai had also been involved in movies since 1995. Sailor Moon Super S: The Movie is Nakai’s first movie, he voiced Oranja.
In video games, he’s the voice actor for Wakka in the Japanese versions of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. With his deep voice, looks like Nakai is still suitable to be the seiyuu for various Samurai characters in anime even though he’s not young anymore.
Nakai has also worked as the voice actor for one of the heroes in AOV, the Bloodthirst Ryoma. Yup, on that Skin, Ryoma speaks in Japanese, which was voiced by Kazuya Nakai.
Let’s hope that Nakai will still be able to continue his art as the seiyuu of iconic game characters. So, what do you guys think? What character would be perfect to be voiced by Kazuya Nakai?
